The lore behind this is: raw milk still being circulating while cereal started to exist. You could consume raw milk, but you should heat it up to make it MUCH safer to consume, there are a shit ton of diseases you can get from raw milk. So there is a bloodline existing today where the milk for cereal is warmed up when the cereals are consumed and the fastest way to do this today is the microwave. The cereal will get soggy quicker. The milk will acquire the taste of the chosen cereal quicker. So in the end, this is just a texture and preference thing.
