I owned the XS500B in the UK. It was outwardly similar to the TX but featured a twin disc arrangement up front. It was a quick, & well handling bike but suffered from oil weeping from its two-piece head addressed on the 500C. I thought it was a very handsome machine.

I didn't mention that this TX500 model has the capability to add a second disc on the left fork tube. Never came from the factory like that but I've heard that some RD350/400 racing bikes took front ends from the TX line to get more front brake power. Not sure if that's true. I have thought about adding a second disc up front - then I think about all that unsprung weight and then I sit down with a beer and relax 🙂

In Australia we only got the TX 750 version. Identical colour and markings to the TX 500 shown here. The 750 didn't take off Down Under.

Where did you get the mufflers and what brand are they?

I got the mufflers from Dime City Cycles - they were identified as '26" - Reverse Cone Megaphone Muffler". The closest comparable set currently on the DCC website are linked below. I have been thinking about selling it sometime this year - there are a couple of motorcycle shows I want to enter it in first. Of course, if I sell it, the money goes to finding the next resto-mod project :-) Let me know how serious you are.

@ very serious. I have never had a vintage bike but read motorcycle classics magazine for years and it’s time to step up. Need one that’s been gone through as I am limited in mechanical engineering
