On a serious note, the literal best thing for a serious relationship is to have discussions about every "little issue". The key is to have them once, and properly, and decide on how you both want them done and who does what and when. From loading the dishwasher to how to greet each other at the door. Because these are things you will do every day for, hopefully, something like half a century. It matters if you get them right. Something I really wish my younger self and the ex-wife would have known and done. 😑

Yeah, Dr. Phil has it totally backwards when he says: "Pick your battles, but once you start, don't ever back down." No, you should battle over everything, and always be looking for a way to back down. Exchanging opinions and learning to justify them, and learning to give them up when we discover our justications are flawed, is the secret to happiness in all relationships. Husband/wife, parent/child, boss/employee, cop/civilian, soldier/commander, leader/citizen. Nothing works right if only 1 brain is making all the decisions.
