Littered in the comments everywhere is the word corruption, and numerous accusations of actually throwing games with imaginary gambling cartels etc. The level of off the charts insane paranoia is actually laughable. That said, the red card last weekend was absolutely ridiculous, and the fact VAR didn’t catch it entitles some fans to go off the deep end I suppose. Just don’t spend too long playing the persecuted victims, or the season will be over.

It is very strange to see kovacic receive only one yellow card for the same offence and martenelli receiving 2 yellow cards in a matter of seconds. If this doesn't show incompetence or bias, then what isit, how come he is one of the best referees with so many inconsistencies? About time, these referees need to be questioned or suspended, david coote is a clear example of bias. We need referees from Europe if possible, and var should be independent.

There's no doubt that Martinelli's first offence was probably a yellow card but the second was just a foul and if no card was given for that no-one would have batted an eyelid. Kovacic's first challenge was 100% endangering an opponent can could have seriously injured Odegaard. And although the challenge on Rice wasn't as serious, he was still off the ground so it was reckless at best. How the first one wasn't a red and the second one a yellow is truly baffling. Even moreso after we've seen Myles Lewis-Skelly be sent off for a challenge which was nowhere as near as bad as either of Kovacic's!

Add the rice red card to this and you can understand why fans are waking up to the fact that football is closer to WWE than competitive sport. There’s stories mapped out, refs and VAR that can hide making rules up as they go behind each other with no ultimate responsibility, 115 swept away and drama generates eyes on the product.
