Thank you for this video. I was fascinated by the fusion of philosophies and cultures as shown by the painting in the temple when you first walked in. It's written in French and Chinese: "Dieu et Humanité, Amour et Justice" (God and Humanity, Love and Justice). The garment worn by the French philosopher (probably Victor Hugo or a general governor) is very much from Napoléon III era. The abandoned tomb is interesting also. It looks like a tomb fit for a former mandarin or a high-ranking official from the South-Vietnam era. Those roasted ducks look so yummy... You made my mouth watering, and the genuine affection between the locals and you is contagious. Happy New Year to all of you from Houston!
@LastFlightOut17 күн бұрын
thanks for all that info - i was wondering about thar painting when i saw it, it stood out to me as very odd...... in the moment it seemed to have some catholic undertones. i felt a great connection to the locals in central vietnam, i had many great and positive experiences with them !!!
@remicout517517 күн бұрын
@@LastFlightOut Yes, the temple does have some Roman Catholic undertones. If those oriental ornaments are stripped off, it would look like a Catholic church, I think! Those interior ornate columns reflect ancient Chinese influence, but they end up with ancient Greek's Corinthian decorations at the top. That's both kitsch and mesmerizing at the same time... Never been to a Cao Dai temple myself, but it will be on my list after watching this video!

that is part of it. but i have many more reasons for finding peace in Vietnam than just low cost of living, and I believe that shows in my videos. With the tropical climate in Vietnam, there are a lot of venomous variety of snakes. It is very dangerous especially for foreigner when unforeseen critical incident like snake bites can be stressful and hard to seek local help when time is sensitive matter. So maybe at least come up with a plan for situation like this such as having a note for critical situations, and don't afraid to seek help because most Vietnamese have very kind hearts, they would be very concerned for you no matter where you from.
