This ain't for the best My reputation's never been worse, so You must like me for me We can't make any promises Now can we, babe? But you can make me a drink Say you're sorry, that face of an angel Comes out just when you need it to As I paced back and forth all this time 'Cause I honestly believed in you You heard the rumors from Inez You can't believe a word she says Most times, but this time it was true We were in the backseat Drunk on something stronger than the drinks in the bar "I rent a place on Cornelia Street" I say casually in the car Holdin' on, the days drag on Stupid girl, I should've known, I should've known (The worst thing that I ever did Was what I did to you) And I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends I'd never walk Cornelia Street again That's the kind of heartbreak time could never mend I'd never walk Cornelia Street again You told your family for a reason You couldn't keep it in Your sister splashed out on the bottle Now no one's celebrating And you were tossing me the car keys, "fuck the patriarchy" Key chain on the ground, we were always skipping town And I was thinking on the drive down, any time now He's gonna say it's love, you never called it what it was Back when we were card sharks, playing games I thought you were leading me on I packed my bags, left Cornelia Street Before you even knew I was gone And you held my lifeless frame And I know it's long gone and There was nothing else I could do And I forget about you long enough To forget why I needed to Dom Pérignon, you brought it No crowd of friends applauded Your hometown skeptics called it Champagne problems You had a speech, you're speechless Love slipped beyond your reaches And I couldn't give a reason Champagne problems But if I just showed up at your party Would you have me? Would you want me? Would you tell me to go fuck myself? Or lead me to the garden? In the garden would you trust me If I told you it was just a summer thing? I'm only 17, I don't know anything But I know I miss you And there you are on your knees Begging for forgiveness, begging for me Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry And soon they'll have the nerve to deck the halls That we once walked through One for the money, two for the show I never was ready, so I watch you go Sometimes you just don't know the answer 'Til someone's on their knees and asks you "She would've made such a lovely bride What a shame she's fucked in the head, " they said But you'll find the real thing instead She'll patch up your tapestry that I shred They say all's well that ends well But I'm in a new hell every time You double-cross my mind You said if we had been closer in age Maybe it would've been fine And that made me want to die The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel Whose shine reflects on you Not weepin' in a party bathroom Some actress askin' me what happened: You That's what happened: You You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes Sippin' coffee like you're on a late-night show But then he watched me watch the front door all night Willin' you to come And he said: It's supposed to be fun Turning 21 Betty, I'm here on your doorstep And I planned it out for weeks now But it's finally sinkin' in Betty, right now is the last time I can dream about what happens when You see my face again But you keep my old scarf from that very first week 'Cause it reminds you of innocence and it smells like me You can't get rid of it 'Cause you remember it all too well, yeah 'Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale I'm gonna find someone someday Who might actually treat me well This is a big world, that was a small town There in my rear-view mirror disappearing now And it's too late for you and your white horse Now it's too late for you and your white horse To catch me now It was rare, I was there I remember it all too well And I was never good at telling jokes, but the punch line goes "I'll get older, but your lovers stay my age" From when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight You hold my hand on the street Walk me back to that apartment Years ago, we were just inside Barefoot in the kitchen Sacred new beginnings (Barren cold) That became my religion, listen I still remember the first fall of snow And how it glistened as it fell I remember it all too well (And hold your hand while dancing Never leave you standing Crestfallen on the landing With champagne problems Your mom's ring in your pocket Her picture in your wallet You won't remember all my Champagne problems) Just between us, did the love affair maim you all too well? Just between us, do you remember it all too well? Just between us, I remember it (Just between us), all too well (Hold on to the memories They will hold on to you Hold on to the memories They will hold on to you Hold on to the memories They will hold on to you And I will hold on to you Please don't ever become a stranger (hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you) Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere (hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you) Please don't ever become a stranger (hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you) Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere (I will hold on to you)) Wind in my hair, I was there, I was there Down the stairs, I was there, I was there Sacred prayer, I was there, I was there It was rare, you remember it all too well Wind in my hair, I was there, I was there Down the stairs, I was there, I was there Sacred prayer, I was there, I was there It was rare, you remember it

I think it's cool she is rerecording but I think as an artist she should not rely so much on nolstagia.
@sunflowermashups15913 жыл бұрын
I think that’s where the vault tracks come in. They were written at the time of the album but never released, so it gives both fans and casual listeners something new!
@prachim.78823 жыл бұрын
She's not rerecording for the nostalgia, she's doing it so she can own her work again. If you haven't heard, her first six albums were bought by a selfish and greedy man who refused to give them back to her.
