Being off by 0.00002s, you'd need to run refresh rate at well over 50,000 Hz to see the one frame difference between the non-world record and the potential world record it could be, that's ridiculous.

I don't think the game's physics engine even updates at such a rate, regardless of all the delay from input devices. I don't think anyone should pretend there's a difference at all there.

Well there is. Physics engines are typically much faster than refresh rates. And even if the physics engine isn't fast enough, the game can interpolate between where (and when) you are in some instances and the next, so it can calculate when you would have crossed the finish line, even though the physics engine is technically not precise enough for that. At some point you run into numerical issues but I don't think we're here yet

@@herkules593I believe trackmania has 100Hz tick rate, but the time between start and fin are probably calculated without any arbitrary resolution. So one change in steering value for 10ms would probably change the time significantly.

I'm guessing that the resulting time given by the game is calculated by considering the position of the car on the tick before finishing, on the tick after finishing, and the respective speeds on those ticks, and inferring the precise time that the car would have crossed the finish line if all of the moments between were simulated. I know for a fact that a similar system was used by Mario Kart 64.

@3:56 That's not hardstyle, that's Gabber/Hardcore, faster and way more distorted/grimy than hardstyle. I started listening to that stuff back in 2001. I can't really do it anymore, it's just too fast for my old brain but it was what got me into techno back in the day.
