I could walk into the Bank of England this morning videoing myself saying 'how many counterfeit bank notes are in the vault I wonder, I'll confront the staff and ask'. Without hard evidence its all pointless. You should have hung around and watched for someone bringing in something, covertly recorded the transaction and see what checks are done, or even took something in yourself. Other than that, I do agree that these types of stores need proper regulating which include proper ID checks and even taking a photo of the seller with their goods so if they are found to be stolen, the cops have evidence straight away.

I quite wrenching like 5-6 years ago. I own appx 30k American in automotive tools. Another 15k in tool boxes. Retailers closer to 80k. I haven't worked on much sense I left the trade. Bet there's 30k in tools in my home garage. Had them in my kitchen at my apartment. The only tool I've ever sold for cash was to buy a better one. And if I could id keep both most of the time. I've bought tools I've never used Tradesmen don't sell their tools crack heads and junkies do
@tonyharris2303 жыл бұрын
It should be a legal requirement to prove ownership of tools etc that you want to sell, it would also help if there was an easily accessed database for the public to check serial numbers etc, it would also help if especially FORD didn't make transits so easy to get into!!

It shouldn't be difficult to do something like that Tony. These pawn shops should being lobbying for this database.

In the US you have to provide identification before you can sell or pawn something. At least that's how it used to be. Now pawn shops are just crummy retail stores. Because of the internet they think every POS instrument they have is some kinda rare, collectable.

Then when you buy something from the shop and sell it on ebay the police come through your door. When they find out it was sold to you from a company they NFA it

A couple of issues with the points your making. 1. Tradesmen don't sell their tools - Maybe not but plenty of people who AREN'T tradesmen buy expensive tools and then realize they have little to no use for them, get buyer's remorse and sell them on. Tradesmen's tools are not exclusively sold to tradesmen. 2. When you buy tools do you ask for a receipt or something? - So if you took an old TV in there that you bought say 3 years ago would you have the original packaging and receipt? No, of course you wouldn't, your not taking it there for a warranty repair, your taking it to sell. 3. Tell me how you prove something isn't stolen to a shop if you don't have a receipt. Because with that logic someone could go in your van and claim all your gear is stolen unless you have a receipt for every last drill, spanner, tape measure ect. 4. Unless that guy owns the shop he just wants to do his job that he gets paid a crap wage for and go home. You walk in there sticking a phone in his face, for all he knows you could be about to attack him, try and make him personally liable for something he hasn't done, trash the shop, the list goes on. Him filming you is just a wise thing to do in the situation you put him in.

I didn’t understand a word you said or what the hell was going on until about 30 seconds in. But neways, do all of you people not realize that this is how every pawn shop is in the world pretty much. NEVER have I ever once pawned any item where they have asked me beforehand for proof of ownership with the receipt or anything of that nature. EVER

I remember a few years ago reading about a stolen car that happened to contain a government ministry laptop (just some bureaucrat, no one of any note). The police recovered the vehicle and laptop, arrested the suspect, charged him, brought him before the court, gained a conviction and had a decent custodial sentence passed in less than 3 weeks. The wheels of justice spin fast and true for some, and not at all for the rest of us: if some regular Joe's car gets nicked he'll be lucky to have them answer the phone, and prison for the villain? No chance!

Who are the police we dont see them anymore unless parked up chin wagging or picking on innocent simple folk. They lost the connection with the public along time ago. They used to go in the second hand stores checking out there goods against there books by law there supposed to keep. Supposed to check out against stolen reported goods. Unless you you do the investigating and do there job for them you dont stand any chance of getting them goods back. Fair play to this guy for making this video something many of us are awhare of the police turn a blind eye too. Even in the store the lads working there plainly show how easy they get away with it arrogant about it too we all know whats going on.

That’s why they ask for ID so they can go back to the person , they can’t sell anything to them without ID . Plus police do checks on these shops to check there stock isn’t stolen . I’ve seen tradesmen give up there occupation and sell there tools . Why would they ask if it’s stolen , do you think the thief is going to admit it so the buyers says no thanks to buying them . Any tools that found to be stolen is removed and they take a loss , so it’s not in there interest to buy huge amount of stolen tools . Mark all your tools so if it’s stolen it’s clearly visible and hard to remove . At a glance you can see your tool and say that’s mine . If like you say tradesmen don’t sell tools then they don’t mind marking them as they for the lifetime of the tool . Once marked take a photo as it’s date stamped , puts more rights in your court than there’s

His face when you asked him if his phone was second hand! Awesome. We have laws so most of the stolen goods bought at pawn shops in the US get either turned in or shipped out of town by the grifter at the counter. The theif usually has to present ID for the record to sell or pawn the goods.

The UK and all Europe has the same laws. What I've seen happening is these stores not keeping track and not submitting info to the police when they know it's stolen. Nobody would ever bring in a full kit of Makita and sell it at 200 (with final price of 450) even if it was beat up. And they know that, but they want to play big games. Cops won't intervene if there's no charges, and in order to go against them you need to prove a minimum amount in value. Just as if you steal 399€. Nothing will happen to you until you steal +400€, and thieves know that so well, that often throw away wallets with 600€ in them after taking their 350. EU laws are made to make the criminal's life easy.

Is this in the USA? Because pawn shops here are heavily regulated you can't be anonymous and pawn something are sell something to a pawn shop.

“So you’re going to film me back?” Yh man, how are you going to complain? You went in on some random minimum wage employees that don’t get paid anywhere near enough to deal with your nonsense. They are not the companies lawyers, and they sure as heck aren’t stealing peoples tools. Incredibly ignorant behaviour, if you think that trade of stolen goods is occurring then pass that info onto the relevant authorities don’t harass random workers that aren’t responsible for the theft or the company policies that allow it to slip through on their end.

If I was a tradesman, I'd engrave my initials on my tools and take pictures. So If they do get stolen and I find them in a place like this. It would be so much easier proving they're mine. Edit: I so knew it was gonna be a cash converters, generator or exchange. Except for really old mobile phones, computer games and dvds, that's all they sell in some stores. Plus also a guy with hardly any teeth and using benefit letters as proof of ID isn't gonna own £100s if not £1000s of tools
