All-year Basics Wardrobe: Identifying Gaps, Goals, and Wish List Items!

In today's video, I'm going to take you through the process of how I curate my all-year basics capsule wardrobe! In order to make a basics wardrobe that works for you, you have to identify your color scheme, gaps, goals, and what pieces will fill those gaps. I show you that process in today's video! Building a solid core wardrobe is absolutely key to making your seasonal capsules work, so I hope that you take the time to really be intentional as you curate your own all-year basics capsule.

Also, may I suggest trying palazzo pants? I think they would look quite good on you. Maybe in a print in your summer capsule to try the silhouette

Hi Lauren, another helpful video. Regarding the wide leg jeans - why not buy to fit your trouble area and have them tailored? Wide leg style is particularly forgiving too. I've found that if I buy to fit my waist, then the hips and thighs are too big. With wide legs, that doesn't matter as much. If the issue is that jeans/trousers fit your waist, but are then too tight on your hips and thighs, try "curvy" styles which can be a life saver. Personally, I find a wide leg can truncate the look of my legs, so I always get wide legs long enough to almost touch the floor. With white... that perfect off white, ivory or cream can be really elusive, I've tried. My solution is winter white vs stark white. Almost white, but just a tiny bit warmer. A perfect substitute for stark white in a wardrobe while still feeing crisp yet easy to use with warm and cool tones. A wardrobe workhorse.

Have you considered taking your current whites and dyeing? Its a great way to change your capsule up. I would even consider dyeing the stripe. Rit dye has a recipe section where you can choose a color swatch and follow their recipe to achieve the color. Lots of choices!

I have wanted to create a capsule wardrobe for awhile now. I just always felt that what people recommended to go into a capsule wardrobe wasn't me. Finally I figured out how to try and work with my style. It has taken me a long time to figure out my style. Love your videos they really help a lot.

New to your channel! I really enjoy your personality and confidence with your style! Too many channels are full of basic basics. I have been leaning toward “elevated” basics with a romantic or eccentric twist. Things that express myself well without a word. I have never looked great in stark white or black so I also opt for deep navy and an ivory or off white color. T shirts need longer sleeves or even half sleeves. No cap or really short sleeves so my t shirt hunt is a little more challenging and slower, but that’s just what I need!

I think the wish list idea is the best!! I am guilty of buying and re-buying the same or very similar items over and over, because I furry l forget I already had it in my closet! I also think it's a great idea to put things in the online cart and thinking on it for a day or so!

I found your video was very helpful for me. I’ve had a bit of an issue because I had way too many clothes for a capsule wardrobe. I have donated most of my assorted tees and tops in many, many colors and prints, which helped a lot. Now I can concentrate on fewer and more versatile tops. Also, I will be adding some neutrals that I can wear when the weather is warmer. Thank you so much for your inspirational videos.

Hi, recent subscriber here, love your take on the capsule wardrobe! Ive adapted to the idea to call my basics “essentials” because they are essential for my wardrobe to work but that doesn’t mean they need to be basic, that helps me to mentally move away from how a capsule is “supposed to” look like :). Anyway, just wondering what app you use for notes? , I struggle to find a good one that also lets me add custom colors

I wanted to create a wardrobe capsule for some time. This video has inspired me to work on it. Tired of purchasing items because I liked the item and returning them back to the stores. I couldn’t find what to wear them with. Don’t like sweaters. They look so boxy on me. My question is, how many outfits can you make with your basic wardrobe capsule? And are your button down shirts fitted or relaxed? Thank you for sharing and keep the videos coming for those that need and want a change as myself.

I could totally see you with a pair of Big Bud Press Western pants. They have some beautiful warm neutrals like you wear, and they have elasticated waistbands while still looking really polished 😮👏 they also have trousers with elasticated waistbands! Also yes, as a person from southern California, cotton sweaters are EVERYTHING

I'm on the same journey too - it's quite tricky. I have taken so many items back because they felt off and didn't fit well on me or my style. Someone told me for bottoms I'm petite and curvy to try to find bottoms that are curvy fit and that will solve the waist-hip fit. You should try curvy fit bottoms too. I haven't found any yet. Here's to finding wardrobes we love!

Love seeing your method for identifying the pieces in your closet and the gaps you need to fill! I love how you are adding a bit of romance in your tops. I’ve been finding that plain, workhorse tops are just not detailed enough for me. The combination of practicality and attention to detail is what I look for in tops/ blouses. I need those feminine details! Also, I think that you would love looking into the Dressing Your Truth free course by Carol Tuttle. A lot of the things you are drawn to (or are moving away from) would be so enlightening and validating in understanding what/why you love those things! For instance, only a Type 4 woman can wear stark black, and stark white. For women who are not Type 4, it appears too harsh and ages them, causing redness in the face, or aging lines to become apparent. But Black on a Type 4 woman looks stunning and youthful. Same with white. Pure white looks best on a Type 4 woman. But other Types look radiant in winter whites, softened whites, creams, or ivory’s. It’s really cool knowledge to have and helps guide you to what you will instinctively love.

I wear mostly dresses and skirts and find it hard to put any dresses into my year-round wardrobe. The reason is that both sleeve length and fabric have to be very different for the hot and cool seasons here in Norcal. I need full-length sleeves in the winter. The closest I have to year-round dresses are two long-sleeve knit dresses in viscose, which is cool and breathable, but mostly I wear these in fall and spring. For comfy trousers, I have cotton knit slim ones with elastic waists, called relaxed leggings, but they are hard to find. They are thick, so not revealing like leggings, but just as comfortable. I got my favorites from Soft Surroundings, but they were discontinued. I also have some from J.Jill, but they are not quite as good.

Have you looked at Alder Apparel Open Air pant? May be a slimmer silhouette than you’re looking for, but they are incredibly versatile and comfortable.

We are moving in the same direction--more navy, much less black, more ivory less white and neutrals for year round core basic wardrobe. Have you considered either a sky blue cotton mockneck (pure has one with 3/4 sleeves)or wild wide legged pants in your colors?

Amazon house brands make good, very lightweight cotton sweaters, for thicker winter ones, Ralph Lauren is great. I like Ralph Lauren also because they make true white ones, not just ivory, which is better for my cool coloring.
