Smokey, great review. I watch all of your videos, they’re informative and interesting… thank you! You are partly to blame for my purchase of this bike last weekend. You got me interested and then I just had to get one. Replacing my Yamaha FJR 1300 with the KTM 1290 SAR. I ordered a new Puig touring wind shield and the taller rally seat. I would like to see a video about the KTM hard cases versus soft panniers. Keep up the great work.

If you are planning on doing some offroad with pannier go for the soft ones. The hard ones are very expensive and if they break it's an expensive drop. The soft ones might cause stuff on the inside to break tho 😁. Congrats on the purchase by the way.

@LifeofSmokey Hi thanks for the great videos you make, 2 questions: how lower is the optional heated low seat? in terms of handling and weight feeling how do you compare this to the Norden 901? (of course it's heavier but how heavier?)

1 : the lowered seat is 2cm lower as original , but the lowered heated comfort seat is the same as original as it's higher because of the gel and heating 😅🙈. 2 : When the motorcycle is running you don't feel any difference. The 1290 SAS and SAR ride like mopeds that's how light they feel.

Compared to other adventure bike it’s not that pricy of you ask me. I do believe it’s worth the money and really having second thoughts with my GT at this moment. I am deeply in love with this. 😁

The S does have a small front wheel and no wired/spoke wheels. I prefer big wheels in the front , good bottom protection and a bit more ground clearance just in case I follow the trails home. I have seen people put dual-sport tires on an S as well by the way. The S also has the suspension mode change on the dash. The R has manual adjusted suspension and a lower front screen. If you ride on the road most of the time and you want some more comfort go with the S and a dual-sport tire. If you like the rough stuff more and want to ride any trail you see go for the R 😌🙌

Zie dat deze al de terugroepactie gehad heeft,en meschien handig om te vermelden in een volgende video😉 Tussen de 2 radiatoren zit een zwarte slang en bij de jouwe zit er nu een alu dop op de zwarte slang ervoor was dit plastiek en kon niet goed tegen de warmte van de uitlaatbocht.

hey smokey! really nice review dude. I have seen almost all of your videos about the 1290s cause im on the market for one of them! And i have a question, i saw somewhere that the guarantee they give you does not cover the electronics of the bike,meaning that if u have a problem with your electronics the first year for example, they do not cover the damage. is that true? @@hliasskirlas8233 No need in both , a GT rides and sounds just like an R , just a bit smoother and more fun to ride slower. Also more wind protection but the bike still feels like an angry beast 😁. If you wanna go more quiet and comfy the Adventure S or R is your weapon of choice 😎

Old and new GT is not that much of a difference to be honest. That new Adventure R is rediculous how fun it is. I need a fast but smooth bike and it’s just that! And the “go everywhere” ability is something that really speaks to me. These days it’s more cars on the road then people in a bar. So some offroad riding is always fun if the bike is capable for it 😎

Can you do a ride review. Like those who did review on a GSA. Im more into touring, but the S model is not my cup of tea. Still prefers the spoke R version. Im planning on jumping ship, but am fearful of the beastly KTM. Is it as close to the GSA comfort for long distance trip. Is the full tank per mileage is decent or say adequate for an adventure bike?

Is gewoon dezelfde vering , de R heeft wel geen automatische vering die je kan instellen naargelang gewicht en rijgedrag zoals bijvoorbeeld de GT en de SAS enzo wel heeft. Alsook heeft de R geen adaptieve cruise control. Maar ik vind hem gewoon supergoed rijden op de baan. Heb momenteel ook nog de baanbanden erop liggen. 😊

Do you ever get the "key not in range" error? I have a 2020 and I can't find a fix for that seems there is a manufacturing problem because the key is DEFINITELY always in range

Nope never had issues with that. Might be a stupid question but did you change the battery so it’s signal is a lot stronger? Heard this question before , will ask the ktm boys when i see them again 😊

I’m gonna be very honest….yes! 😎 The GT is a cutting edge sports tourer and i really love that. But for power/comfort/adventure this is my weapon of choice. I can take better corners with this thing as with my GT. 🙈

There are a couple of reasons that i know/have read why they are not in the USA yet. Most of it has to do with covid ofcourse and low road bike sales in USA because of that. As far as i know for now the new 2022 GT and Adventure S/R will come to the states so hold on just a little bit. The new R is just 👌😁

I bought the first gen Superduke R , had no problems , bought a Superduke GT also no problems after 2 years , bought another Superduke R and have been riding it like a maniac and even offroad really abusing it and also no problems with it. The 1290 engine is just 👌. But every bike has got some issues from every brand. I wouldn’t look at that to much 😊

Jo jo, es gibt viele Powerparts, jedoch keine vernünftigen Handschützer. Stabile Handschützer stoßen an das Display. # So many Powerparts, but no sensible hand guards. Stable hand guards touch the display.

Why isnt anyone calling out KTM on the software addons costing soo much... £400 for quick shifter software.. you're kidding right? There is no physical equipment needed to enable it.. it's just a marketing ploy to get more cash from buyers. Ability to list the bike in the UK for £14999 is complete nonsense.. It's a £16500 bike minimum.. e.g. my S1000R came with the sports pack and alot of the electronics this bike has.. quicker shifter, abs, DSC, cruise, etc... £11k.. Quality is better.. Appreciate the different bike types.. but annoyed with the wool pulling with the software features turned off... Yes, it cost money to develop the software - but this is pulling the wool over our eyes to inflate the price.. KTM screensaver £250 KTM solitaire £150 KTM minesweeper £300 Really? I directly employ software developers and produce products from code... so I know you want paid for it.. but it's just money grabbing from KTM. :)

I did when i bought my GT. Had to pay 300 for the track pack , dealer just inserts a usb stick and done 👌🙈. Will put it on my “why list” for KTM when i see the man in charge again 😉

I just talked with KTM about the software upgrades. As i thought they cost alot of money to develop. Which i can understand from a marketing standpoint. An iphone 12 costs 200€ to make yet they ask 1400€ for one. That’s the same principal , development is many hours of work , testing and research. That’s why they don’t unlock it for free. The software is on the bike most of the time. Just not unlocked 😎

@@LifeofSmokey the alternative is that it makes the base bike affordable to more people. If the bike included everything it would be 25K or more and would limit the market. Lots of folks don't want a center stand, racks, crash bars or fancy exhausts and it's a damn good thing they come as options and not stock equipment driving the base price up by 5K. If KTM had only released the 890 adventure as the rally spec bike they'd have sunk their own ship. Yamaha uses this with their T7. Build it with crap components and out compete the competition with price point. Those that want a real off road adventure contender have to invest another 3-5K into the platform just to match the base KTM 890 adv R.
