Because it's cheaper. Zenfone 3 uses the Sony IMX-298 sensor, the same sensor used in the OnePlus 3T. Zenfone 3 Laser uses a worse Sony sensor and Zenfone 3 MAX uses a even worse sensor that isn't even Sony.

hi Asus I'm really disappointed that after just less 2weeks I found out that my screen is dimming. I couldn't demand for unit replacement bcoz they said it lapse the 7day unit replacement. although the problem with the screen was not really that easy to find out. so the concept store asked me bring it to the service center and so I did. 2weeks passed they informed me it was fixed. my question is that how would I know if they replaced the same kind of LCD (Super IPS+ Display) and not just any kind of LCD screen.

I have purchased this phone on 22nd Feb 17. It was working fine for almost about 4 months but then ( Probably after the Update to Nouget ) it started bothering me. The Issue is CONTACTS. it says CONTACT LOADING for a very long time.. So if you want to make a call and search a contact for that from your Contacts List , it really makes you cry ?? I have called many times to service center in India / help line , they have given all the solutions, but the problem remains as it is. If you RESTART the Phone it works OKAY for some time .. Update Contact , ZEN UI , CALLING SCREEN , works well some time only .. Rest the phone is AMAZING .. Kindly help me to resolve this issue ..

Here's a list of cons of the device, which I hope will be improved in the next generation. The Zenfone 3 series are already awesome but further improvements will make the next Zenfone generation scaring other giant companies. 1. Pricing. A lot of people complain about the price of the device, specifically the ZE552KL which costs a little bit less than the Oneplus 3 and more than the Xiaomi Mi5. Both of the aforementioned devices sport the Snapdragon 820 processor and the same camera sensor so many people will opt for either two of these devices instead of the ZE552KL mainly because of specs and price compared. 2. Camera. It's awesome, hands down. But, it's not flawless, like all other phones. It oversaturates pictures most of the time although having a colour correction sensor. The video recording is stable but the quality is significantly degraded. Focusing is also a problem when recording as it can't lock onto a subject automatically when doing close-ups. Exposure is also the main issue as the picture/video tends to be underexposed or overexposed, or slow to change exposure when doing quick transitions from different lighting settings. Future updates might fix these issues,though.Still, the camera is superb. 3. Specifications. This is mostly related to the first con. Pricing. Please justify your pricing with specifications because not everyone appreciates a quality device with average specifications costing more than its competition. I personally don't have an issue with this as the ZE520KL model is priced perfectly for me but the ZE552KL is not. The device itself is gorgeous, well-optimized and overall a great, complete device. Not everyone agrees though :'( 4. WE NEED BACKLIT NAVIGATION BUTTONS. PLZ ASUS PLZ. It would be perfect if you remove those non-backlit BUTTONS and add backlight. It is quite bothering to see them because the Zenfone 3 itself screams premium all over it, except for those invisible buttons in the dark... That's all. I wish you hear us(I've gathered all these cons from what I've observed in KZbin comments sections and other forums) and fix most if not all of these cons. If you grant us our wish, I'M 99.9% sure people would buy your devices in a heartbeat. Thanks!

I'll be expecting that next generation Zenfones has a greater camera quality (will not have any trouble in fast focusing and not too saturated photos), greater and unique specs, and less bloatwares, lesser bezzels and has an AMOLED display. At 7mm thick and has a gorilla glass 5.
