I've been a Graphic Designer for 8 years now and did my first UI mobile app back in 2016 and I wondered whether or not it was worth pursuing. I've decided this year that it is so thanks for the video

That's great to hear Wei. 8 years of experience in graphic design means you can contribute a lot to the UX field. Best of luck on your journey and thank you for connecting

most of the jobs I see offered are always ui/ux together. they kind of like to merge them together. so I was wondering if you are a graphic designer would it easier to just focus on ui design side for your portfolio and get the ux experience while on the job. UX seems like the research and planning stage so I guess show your planning stage and design process as well.

Hey K3L, that's a great strategy. Lean into your UI design chops as you have those from your graphic design background, and then you'll be able to learn the UX side of the work on the job. UI specific gigs are more common at larger companies. If you want to apply for a UI/UX hybrid, definitely show the thinking behind your work as you suggested. You want to show that you're a collaborator and that you understand the iterative nature of designing Web, Mobile or any kind of digital experience. Thank you for your comment!

This was super informative, appreciate the pep talk at the end. I'm a graphic designer w about 10 years experience in mostly print and some digital design. I've always approach my decision making with "temperature checks" and thought about my customer/ client's design problems instead of a "just wow them" visually approach but UI/UX are a whole other level of thoughtful design that's exciting, but at the same time the tech skills and processes seem overwhelming . Glad to see there is hope for us GDs

Really glad to hear it was informative. Your GD experience is invaluable, and your mindset is right on. It’s GD but applied to a different medium. Best of luck in your journey!

After 5 years of working as graphic designer and also did some Ux/UI projects in previous company, now i have decided to move into UX/UI completely, yet not sure on title that i want to pursue.. trying hands on freelance work, looking for job is bit tough as people doubt on the transition and it is also tough for them to see it in my portfolio as the competition out there is much better than me, it is intimidating and back of mind thinking if nothing works should i invest in education? Just holding things strong and hoping i see my way... super thanks for this video the pointers are helpful

Investing in education is great. Whatever you can do to keep going is worth it. Good luck on your journey! You got this.

Thanks for the video. I've been a graphic designer for more than 9 years now, and I also got a UX design certificate from a short course. But when I applied to UX or UI designer jobs, they always required industry experience even though I got a folio. I feel so frustrated 😮💨 Should I apply for a UI or UX Junior Role? Please advise what should I do 🙏
@withpulp2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the watch! Glad to hear you’re on your journey to UX. It’s great that you have a portfolio ready, it sounds like a lot of the heavy lifting is done. If they’re asking for industry experience, it sounds like your resume or portfolio might be centered on graphic design. Update your resume so that it reflects the UX work that you did do. And it wouldn’t hurt to apply to a UI/UX junior role at all. It will be easy to make a transition once you’re in the profession. Keep us posted on your journey! If you’d like us to do a critique of your portfolio drop it here, maybe we can do it in a future video. Best of luck! You got this.

I have to graduate with a graphic design degree then I could transition to UX designer ? Or I can transition while in my 4 years college?
@withpulp2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. Many employers look for a degree, but it doesn’t have to be graphic design. UX’ers come all sorts of academic backgrounds. And some don’t even have 4 year degrees. More and more, companies are starting to remove the 4 year requirement but at the time of this writing, this is still an anomaly. Def worthwhile to complete your 4 year. Best of luck!

It's because you are focused, strategic and you get straight to the point. Very interesting input,as well. It doesn't seems that you want to sell something, but just to share your knowledge. That's what people like, ...keep it real 👍For me it would be interesting to get more information about the process and it's procedure for a customer to create an app,from a to z...maybe in a serie of short videos. Cheers Jay

@@thebrotherhood1675not as a graphic designer no. Nothing to disagree about, it's factual. Ux designers objectively make more on average by a lot. We weren't talking about anecdotal experiences.
