Xt20, manual focus 50-55 mm. I Love the narrow frame to focus on scenes and preventing too busy scenes, and on the other hand I love the compression of the 50 mm view. And manual to really think about what I want to focus on, I never do a senseless picture if I have to manual focus on it. That's it, more than nothing, but still no need for a bag.

I'm surviving with the X100V and the X-T20 with a 24/2 and 55-200. It all fits in a small Manfrotto bag that I keep telling myself is not a murse as long as it doesn't contain a tube of Blistex or my car keys.

One camera, one lens, one filter, one area. For me that’s usually my XS10. I have quite a few prime lenses, but I seem to be grabbing the XF 35mm F1.4 the most often. Filter based on day or night (Tiffen 1/4 pro mist or K&N CPL). And I usually stick to downtown art deco area....or a brewery haha. Love this video and message. Always good stuff.

We all have succumbed to consumerism to excess. Most KZbin channels feed this condition. Because we photographers want to improve our photographic output, we mistakenly think new better widgets will achieve this. However, if we concentrate on improving our skills, it's likely even a Brownee Box Camera would suffice. Thanks for reminding us of this.

I sold 2 camera bodies and 4 lenses recently to purchase the one body and one lens combo of my dreams. The body is 7 years old and the lens is from the 80s, but they are ALL I NEED to enjoy photography. Loving every minute of it and it has reinvigorated my desire to take photographs. No more gear (lens) FOMO!
@Leo9ine

I'm curious, what combo is that? Always interesting to hear what that perfect fit is for someone.
@Julia-on7mj
@Julia-on7mj 3 жыл бұрын
@@Leo9ine Sure! (I apologize in advance for the long reply). In short, it is a leica mp240 with the minolta m-rokkor 40mm f2. Essential context for that decision is that I already own a leica m3 and an old summicron 50mm f2. That has always been my favorite combo to shoot, but shooting film has become increasingly expensive. I got the xpro-3 in January, as an upgrade from the xt-1, to shoot with my fuji lenses (18mm f2, 23mm f2, 27mm f2.8, and 35mm f2). While it was an amazing camera, I found myself planning for future lens purchases and having endless focal-length FOMO (even between the lenses I already had!) I was searching for used fuji lenses when I came across a used mp240 for a great price (relatively speaking). I realized if I sold ALL my fuji gear I could buy the mp240 and a minolta m lens. I pulled the trigger because I knew it would be closer to feeling like shooting my m3, and lenses would be easily interchangeable between my film and digital bodies (both ways). I also had a feeling it would temper my desire for extra focal lengths because the cost would be a healthy deterrent. Anyway, I still think fuji is great, but I am truly happy as a clam with my current setup.

I don't have a particular photographic niche; I'm a general hobbyist photographer. My camera and lens setup these days is very simple. I have an X-T10 because the X-Trans II sensor is still my all round favourite and I pair that with the XC 15-45 or the XC 35 f/2, if I am in lower light or want some shallow depth of field. I used to have loads of bodies and lenses, across different brands but, like you said, so much just gets left on the shelf. So I made a real effort to boil everything down the the equipment that brings me the most joy or convenience and I ended up with what I now have.

I agree entirely with the use of a good prime . For those who cannot commit to going that far because they love their zooms so much or cannot afford a prime, then all they have to do set the zoom to a particular fixed focal length and they will be able to train their eye quickly to respond to the scene . The only things they are missing out on is a fast aperture, a lighter lens and avoidance of being tempted to not move their feet to compensate for a zoom . Loved the video and hope it encourages others to emulate you . 16 megapixels is way more than enough and the old cameras produce great images as you have proven here. Loved the video .

X-E2 my favourite ever camera to use, despite sea-of-noise EVF at night. My 'landscape and street kit' was X-E2, 27mm, 100mm vintage, travel tripod, sold many of those images. This video is more than a year old and so I am sure your will never see this, but just in case: I am still a newbie (2 yrs) with an XT4 only until this week. I found myself jonesing for a street camera. Wanted one of the newer XT or XPro cameras, but can’t afford a divorce. So I ended up negotiating w/ my bride of 30 yrs to buy a used XE2 w/ new 27mm pancake lens. Now I wait for them both to arrive. The fair market price on the XE2 (I got an “excellent” 2S model from 2016) was way up to $450 and the 27mm was impossible to find used and even new ones were hard to come by, ended up ordering on Amazon. Anyway, I knew there was a subconscious voice in my little pea brain, egging me on to buy this combo. Now I remember where that voice came from. YOU! This video that I just watched again and it all clicked. Ha! I’ll let you know if I enjoy it half as much as I already have in my head 😝

Hey Omar! Your Essex County neighbor again. I saw the intro and I knew right away where you were. My wife grew up in Union CIty, which was 95%+ Cuban back in her day (we’re probably 25+ years older than you are). Still haven’t found a Cuban sandwich that came close to the ones my mother-in-law used to bring us. The best! To your question...I normally shoot street with a 28 or 35 mm FF equivalent lens. Shook things up and went into the city yesterday with the X-Pro3 and 35 (50 equiv) and found it to be a whole new experience. Honestly, I like them both but love the one focal length for a day approach. Just so simple. One less thing to worry about on the camera. Great video. Keep them coming!

The 50 mm f2 is my favorite though; it is small and light and super sharp and it’s a gem of a lens to photograph people in any manner. And in a lot of cases, very usable for street photography too. There is a similar question on Flickr today in the group “Fujifilm X Series & GFX USA.” It’s a complex question that depends on the type of photography I’m going to do. Sometimes it’s my X-Pro 2 and a Pergear 25mm f/1.8 for a project centered around that setup. More often lately, for walk around photography, it’s my newly acquired X-T4 w/ Fujinon 18mm f/2. One camera + one prime is my typical M.O. ... it’s just goal dependent. Sometimes it’s still analog! Love the humor, Omar. Keep it up!

I have a birthday coming up in a couple days, so.... While it doesn't have the features of my X100V or my X-T3, it is slightly smaller and is a fun little camera to us. With the small pancake 27mm lens on it I expect to use it for street photography and just for everyday carrying around. I was doing events and wedding before covid. In my company we all have Nikon D4 and we use 24-120mm zooms 95% of the day. Main photographer for the day would use some primes or 70-200 for the groom and bride in the church and afterwards (weddings are very different here than in the western world). I would love to be nature and wildlife photographer but that is going kinda slow... If I could pick only one camera and lense it would be something light with 50mm prime. And I am still using my old Nikon d3000 for everyday use paired with 50mm. Just single point focus and recompose. Never failed me.

In 2018, I bought a used Canon M5 and used EF-M 22mm f/2. I brought it to NYC for a vacation my girlfriend - now wife.. It was a great camera setup for street photography. So naturally, I sold it like an idiot. A little over a year later, I bought another used M5 and brand new 22mm. Took this setup around the world to London, Normandy, Paris, Bruges, Brussels, New York, Northern Italy, Wisconsin, California, Georgia and Amsterdam. This lens and camera combination has sold more prints and been rewarded with more prints hung in my home than anything else. Total money spent on camera and lens? $380 + $200....I think it's staying this time. Recreational camera and lenses are awesome and shouldn't be confused with professional gear you have to rely on to "get the shot". But they aren't limited by image quality and your creativity.

Really good points. I had a Nikon D5600 with a couple of different lenses and now I have the Fuji x100v, I just pick that up every time. My needs are landscape and nature photography and trying to get to these locations requires hours of hiking. Doing that with over 1kg worth of photo gear isn’t practical and the Nikon is water resistant. I was scared to reduce my options to just a 35mm, but so far I haven’t regretted it. It’s a beautiful camera and you are part of the reason why I bought one. Keep making mad vids!

I often use the X-T1 like this, though usually it is the Meike 28mm f2.8 as I am trying to keep the X-T1 for MF only. My X-E2s and X-E3 really show up the slowness of the 27mm's AF on the the X-T1.
@richardhale9664
@richardhale9664 3 жыл бұрын
@@thegeneral123 The X-T1 is barely any larger than the X-E1 or 2. Adding the battery grip only increases the cameras height so it does not make the camera that much larger (unlike the battery grips of the later X-T models) and there is not much extra weight either. It provides a third mounting point for a camera strap which is really nice and slightly improves the grip and obviously doubles battery life. I often carry the X-T1 and battery grip with the Meike 28mm f2.8 as it is a really flat combination. Honestly, it is obviously larger and heavier than my X-E2s equipped with the same lens, but by much less than you would expect, even more so if one has added the hand grip and a thumbs up to the latter camera.
@masashiro
@masashiro 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardhale9664 Do you use the grip for the extended battery life? or for the ergo handling? I purchased the x-e4 and sold my x-t1. After a month, I got seller's remorse so bought another mint x-t1 in "graphite silver" .... beautiful color. Also noticed that the d-pad is clicky and slightly shaped better, so making it easier and more pleasant to use. BTW, the battery grip came with the silver X-T1. I was thinking to re-sell it, but may just try using it to see if it "fits". :-)

All I need is to have fun. You definitely did not need an E2, and I should've cancelled the preorder on the E4 just like you did, because I already had the X100F and the XT3... (Love the X-E4, by the way. It's oh-so-sexy, and a great match for my elegant, adapted vintage lenses). All the fun and joy begins when you go beyond what you need, and "simpler than you need" is no exception. That's why you got the E2, and that's why you'll be getting the Fuji Godknowswhat really soon! And that's also why I'll be drooling over it when you put out the video! ; )

I usually take a camera with a lens as close to 40mm equivalent as I can find, with a mid WA to mild tele zoom lens. I know these types of zoom lenses are often ridiculed but they are really an advanced tool. They should be used to acquire the amount of background you want in your pic. Amateurs use them to avoid waking but if used properly you'll do a lot more walking. And they're priceless when you can't move. Love your work.

I'm finding the smaller and simpler, the less to think about, the better,...though I picked up photography again during lockdown to shoot birds I see on trails, etc... so the long end of my adapted ancient Canon 70-300mm, though autofocus is a pain. Lately I've been stealth snapping people on the street using the camera button on my iPhone battery case, and discovering and cropping interesting stories afterwards- so fun! For little adventures up in SF city, it's 35mm or 23mm on a small body like the xt-20 or x-e2s. I'm still learning what I like and need, but I probably accumulated a few things I could unload. One thing I discovered - your point - that I enjoy going out with just a single prime.

Street photography is about going out and capturing the moment, everything is unexpected and unpredictable. But we all fall into the gear fever. For me is a 25mm and 40-100mm, that's it. The zoom is for architectural patterns and the prime for the streets.

I started following a KZbin photographer named Willem Verbeeck who does mostly film photography using older medium format cameras. One lens, a body, and a roll of film. I've been blown away at some of his shots, especially with his Mamiya cameras. His results are so different than you would get with most digital bodies. Simple, old-time, and fantastic compositions.

Excellent video. I do documentary and street photography mostly with the occasional landscape and travel stuff. I shoot primarily in black and white and produce black and white images. Color photos are good for me at times, but my heart lies with black and white. I have an X-E3, and it has been a wonderful camera. I wish it had weather resistance, but for what I do primarily it is perfect. It is small, easy to use, and easy to pack. I love the 35 f2. Just a great all round lens. Great for documenting neighborhoods and getting street shots. It also works for the once a month landscape sessions I go on. For me and for what I do, I need something that works, doesn’t get in my way, and I can take anywhere. I have produced two photo books, all with the xe3, and outside of the lack of WR/dual card slots, I couldn’t be happier. I also just need one or two lenses: 35 and something like a 23/18/16. Cheers!

I didn't know what the hell to shoot with. Now, I try to keep it simple. Fujifilm X-E3 w/27mm 2.8 and Olympus XA.

I do feel we get creative and inspired the most, if we decide on one lens for a trip and leave the rest at home. It encourages us to think in those boundaries then given. It’s challenging but hell, a great feeling 😀 Also, it brings out the best in us, if we’re not trying to impress anyone (on social media) with our creativity. Equipment is the secondary question.

Having sold my Canon eos 750d and the five accompanying lenses, I now own the XS10 with the 16-80mm. This will help me find my "fuji-feet" and moving on from there, I will be buying primes. I love landscape, coastal /seaside town and woodland photography, yet I found most of my old lenses didn't get used. A simpler kit with the 16-80mm for general family and walkabout use and primes for the rest is my new approach. But like all photographers... that's subject to change.

I have been using that Pro Neg Hi simulation for the past few weeks, and saving the JPEGs to one card on my XT3. I mainly used Provia before. I like the Pro Neg Hi. It is a lot closer to my editing style - more contrasty, and the blues aren't as saturated. I mainly use The 35 or 23 f2 lenses, and I generally go out with just one lens. Last weekend, I went out to explore a country road with a Pentax 135mm f/2.5 lens, and I switched to the 35 f/2 on the way back. My 18/55 2.8 lives on my XT20. That's what I grab if I need to go wider, or shoot video. I have been shooting Fuji for two years now. Your videos and advice have been a big help. Thanks, and stay safe out there.

For street/documantary, X-T2 and 16mm f/2.8 - 90% of the time X-pro2 and 27mm the rest It is important to "know" the frame that is available through the lens in advance, meaning using 1 or 2 lens only

It's amazing how much you have to buy to realize that you already had everything you need. I bought a Fujifilm X-T2 and 23mm f/2 lens as an experiment, loved it so much that today I have 5 X bodies and 10 XF lenses with redundant overlap (f/2 and f/1.4 versions of the 23mm and 35mm and f/2.8 and f/1.4 versions of the 16mm). When I go out, it's often one body and one lens. I should have spent that money that I spent on all those bodies and lenses and traveled some place with X-T2 and 23mm. I'd have less gear and more pictures.

Funny enough, I've been considering this for a few weeks now. Before lockdown 1 in the UK, I bought the 10-24mm as it was my usual lens to use with my Nikon. Not being able to shoot much hasn't helped but I find myself thinking that just having a wide prime would be better if it has a fast aperature for night time shoots and because I rarely use the full range of a wide zoom focal length in landscape shoots. For sports, zoom tele lenses are king and it doesn't even have to be fast glass for sports like drag races.
