I always thought (And this is probably still the case sometimes) that derby cars where put together a few weeks before the event and weld in some strengthening and away you go... but some of these cars sound like they have some serious HP which makes me think that some of these cars are not one time use haha or maybe just use the engine again

Your thought is still true for some events. But likely most motorsports there are classes in which people pay a lot of money to have the best parts. I have seen 50K worth of performance parts used before, but that is the top end

I'm from Russia, I'm 20, and I work for almost 2 years saving 80% of my salary just to buy a simple car, that can just get me to and from university. By the way I have pretty profitable job - chemistry tutor, I conduct localized classes for exam preparation. And I make more then average salary in Russia. In spite of this it taked 2 years to buy *what do you think...* Chevrolet Lacetti 2007 edition. Sedan 107 horsepowers, mechanical transmission. And the car is after a serious accident and needs to be fixed. Russian situation with our car market is fucking cursed, so much struggle just to buy old wrecked basic car..2 years in teaching mixed with education (I'm studying to be a doctor) So because of all these shit I wrote upper, I feel bad when I watch somebody treats cars like that. In our country you'd have buyers fighting over these cars😢

Yep, hard hits. One time back in the 80's a friend of mine (from AZ) entered a '73 a 4 door Chrysler Newport and got disqualified before the event even happened. He told me the rules said those type cars are forbidden to use. Why?

All the Derbys I've ran it's only Chrysler 1970 and older are banned. And I've ran AZ for 19 years now. And it's really because they don't bend.
