In schools in Libya, every morning we needed to chant this anthem, but before it we needed to chant “the green flag call”, with one student screaming it while we repeat afterwards, the call went like this: “The colors blue, yellow and red do not give the spirit of hope in a human, they represent destruction, devastation and despair, but the GREEN color is the color of hope, the color of life, and even heaven is symbolized with the color green. And here’s our green flag rising and waving high, so let’s all stand and salute it with the Allahu Akbar salute”. One time there was an Egyptian kid in our school and he really wanted to do the call and raise the flag that day, then he started with the call, after he said the first line the whole school bursted into laughter to the point that the anthem was played on tape; he added orange to the colors… Some Federico Fellini kind of memories.

"Allahu Akbar" is an Egyptian pro-military patriotic song composed by songwriter Abdalla Shams El-Din in 1954 and written by poet Mahmoud El-Sherif in 1955. It was first used by the Egyptian Armed Forces as a marching song during the Suez Crisis in 1956. The song was also used as the national anthem of Libya under Muammar Gaddafi from 1969 to 2011.
@retf89773 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: the song was originally made in Egypt during the tripartite aggression in 1956, it was also quite popular elsewhere in the middle east but Gaddafi heard it and liked it and adopted it as his national anthem. It is honestly a hanger song despite it being associated with one of the worst periods in Arab History.
