For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... I wanted to revisit this preset (Hold Lead 4) from I think 2020 or earlier. I'm using the Mesa Lonestar channel 2.
/ johnnathancordy get my backing tracks and chord melodies here!
www.buymeacoff... - if you like what I do and
only if you wanted, you could buy me a coffee!
Using preset "Hold Lead 5"
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
You can get my EXPRESSION patches in this bundle using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...
Try my GENERAL Patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...
Try my patches for Pod GO for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...

I think you also forgot to mention that Holdsworth also rolled back is tone knob at around 50% to get the treble roll off and so he could keep more treble on the amp . I do agree on the low end. I think i read somewhere that he almost dial out the low end completely so the mids are more present. I found that with these two little tricks I get even more of that "woodwind" sound even on my normal amp set-up. If you listen to Prelude on Hard hat area, the sound is surprisingly more brighter and tighter than most people think. And also, the super light string (08's or 09's) is a big thing to get that natural tightness without giving too much output to the pickups.

Do you mean that John's tones are better than what you'd expect to come out of a Stomp? I'm thinking of buying an HX Stomp, to get something a bit thicker and more singing than what I get from a $99 Zoom G1X FOUR, and it's entirely possible that the problem is just my lack of skills, which is not fixable by purchasing new gear.
@christopher.hallissy

@@yzimsx the Helix is a relatively old platform. The Floor came out almost 6 years ago. That hasn’t stopped Line 6 from consistently updating the firmware, but it’s (likely) at the last third of its existence. My original point to John is that he has continued to make inspiring music and squeeze tone out of a box that is, again, relatively old. My son has a Zoom G1X Four. It’s good, but the Line 6 stuff sounds better. It should too, as it’s 6x the price. It also depends on your use case. Are you a touring/gigging musician? The build quality of the Zoom isn’t conducive to getting loaded in and packed out every evening; it’s plastic. I think the Zoom stuff is good for what it is, and the price point it resides in, but it is not as good as the Line 6 Helix line, objectively speaking.

Great playing and thanks for the tutorial. I’ve never used a modeler and they seem great. What type/level compression are you running if any? I’m actually referring to Allan’s playing on Chad Wackermans albums in the early 90’s. Thanks.

Ha yes I mentioned AM in another post and I think it is fair to say those who love Allan also love Alan😊🎸🤘🏻 I love how he managed to create his unique pop fusion style and literally every solo he recorded sends shivers, especially on the first Go West album, the track Warning Sign by Nick Hayward, and of course on his own SFX album. If you are not familiar with Ronnie Johnson, I urge to check out the album How the Land Lies by First Light🌈

@@sampokantele Happy to help👍🏻 If you don’t already know of her, also check out Susan Weinert. Whilst not necessarily Allan sounding, you might also want to check out a couple of other lesser known rock fusion albums such as Shaun Baxter’s Jazz Metal, Keith Moore’s Guitar Stories, and any albums by Gamalon, Matalex and Five After Four. Enjoy🎸🤘🏻

Although I’m afraid to say the tone isn’t anywhere near to Holdsworth. Sorry. The playing more than makes up. You have more chance finding the tone in your fingers and amp. I would suggest forget the pedal. I know it’s my opinion. I can see what your aiming for but that pedal isn’t helping you maestro

I agree with you both. Maybe with a little more mids, not so tamed highs, and less reverb, this tone would be more like Alan's. But the playing makes me completely forget these differences.
