There’s something raw and beautiful about this recording, and the music of coarse.

What a terrific guitarist Allan was. I was an early fan but somewhere along the way I seemed to stop seeking his music in the 90s. much to my regret now because I really missed a lot of marvellous music. Thanks to KZbin I can catch up and listen to some real gems.

44:48 Allan with some bluesy bends. Rare

He looks so amused with himself, though to be fair he did write an entire tune (the dominant plague) as a kind of sci fi caricature of traditional jazz blues

This is rather unusual setting. Not the typical highenergy fusion-jazzrock propelled by powerful drummers like Chad Wackerman or Virgil Donati, not to forget Gary Husband. Allans guitar flowing freely over a very low key jazzy ensemble. Very interesting.

Allan appears to be in his 'comfort zone' with a smaller venue and crowd. His sounds and performance are from the same pallet and era he constructed "16 Men From Tain" from (possibly his best studio release). His hands are in prime shape as well as his focus between shredding and slower lead work without being driven by a drummer (or himself) to excessive speed.

That's true of this and every performance I have ever heard of his.

@@GregorypeckoryI wish that every show Allan ever played was recorded. Thousands of shows across his career, I could spend thousands of hours listening to those hahaha I’m glad some people had the foresight to record Allan’s live performances. New fans and people who didn’t get to experience Allan’s music during his life now have a treasure trove of Allan’s shows on KZbin and other sites.

@@MetalheadNation I am too, although I have mixed feelings since they were disrespecting Allen's wishes when they recorded it.

Very much a group effort, not entirely in AH’s comfort zone. Some of the interplay was pretty intense. Alan sounded like he was trying to mow EltonDesn down at one point! I consider myself lucky to have been at that show.

The solo at the start sounds like the music for A Touch Of Frost. Certainly not a bad thing.

wasnt there a Softworks live album eventually officially released?

Yes, but i'm not sure if it was these same players ...in contrast to '74's 'Gong' - Allan has matured in his playing from merely a 'flashy' soloist to a well rounded yet singular voice in this group whereas the other members haven't evolved as much.
@vbassone Жыл бұрын
Allan was always much more than just a flashy soloist.
