The opening footage of the church was breathtaking, if you can block out the noise of planes, you are transported back to when this church was new with worshipers coming in for mass. The shot of the Ramblers window with the light coming in at a angle was just beautiful. Thank you for your time, I will never be able to see these magnificent buildings in person and here in America there is nothing of that age.

Hi Allan! The entire house is "coloured" by a coat of ancient dignity that only time can produce. Even though the old village is long since gone, this great building stands as witness of both the people who built it, and testimony to the power of the One for which is was devoted. Thanks for taking us along.

As usual, so interesting and instructive. Without the commentary I would miss so much if I were to visit this church. As a Canadian, I am constantly astonished by the age of so many of the buildings in these videos. The only thing we have to compare here is l'Anse-aux-Meadows, the barest vestiges of a Viking settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador. Then pretty much nothing until the seventeenth century, and not much of that either. Also as a Canadian, I am much, much less fond of December: this is the entry into five months of frigid winter, including endless hours of shoveling snow (two metres of it annually on average here in Montreal). I love the month of May!

It's a 12,000 mile journey to Walesby and now I realise how close it is to Binbrook and Market Rasen, both places I know well as I explored the last dwellings of my close relative on RAAF 460 Squadron (EE138) (Brookenby). The December light is really wonderful so a 5th visit must include All Saints.

Thank you Alan, that was a wonderful visit. Loved the carved figure heads. Do you think they were the stone masons or are they just made up. I'm not sure about the white paintwork, think natural wood would have looked better. Is there any particular reason for painting it white? Thank you again.

I watched this glorious video - noting the forlorn state of repair of the interior of the building - on the same day as I read that the Church of Woke (sorry, England) is to give £100,000 million in compensation for the involvement by the Church Commissioners’ predecessor - Queen Anne’s bounty - in the slave trade.

I really worry about these churches, as more and more people turn their backs on God, what will happen to them !
@allanbarton Жыл бұрын
I have no idea Michael, it is a real problem and there doesn't seem to be a viable solution at present. About 1/4 of the churches in Lincolnshire are earmarked for closure as there is no congregation, another 1/4 are to become 'festival' churches only used maybe three or four times a year. It is dire.
@michaelwhite8031 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying Allan, it's very sad. In this day and age where peace of mind is so uncommon churches are a sanctuary.

Yes. As beautiful as this video is, it made me feel desperately sad: what we are looking at here is the future of the Anglican Church. And I'm afraid it deserves it.

Perhaps some of the £1 million fund that is being allocated towards "Slavery Compensation" might help secure the future of such historicaly rare gems? The current Anglican church heirarchy seem not to be too concerned about losing its heritage.
