Doug Howlett was so reliable and no one ever questioned his form or selection. Many AB wingers start their international careers with high try scoring rates then drop later in their careers. Howlett was consistent throughout. He may not have been the flashiest AB winger, but his timing and support running was the best.

Correct on every point you only forgot to mention he was super quick.

Legend. All blacks changed their wingers so often now, his AB try record will likely stand for awhile.

One of my favorite wingers off all time next to jonah. Specially when dougy burns of Jason Robinson now that was gold

I'll never forget what happened after the 2007 Rugby world cup when we lost against France in the semi finals against France it was over a late tackle against Doug Howlett himself from 5 Meters from France goal line but at least the all Black's won the 2011 held in Auckland at eden Park and the all blacks came out on top again in England four years Later 2011 and 2015 was two of the best Rugby world cups I'll never forget

Howlett seems to be the most reliable, in the right place all the time, best positioning.

Nuthin flashy about some of Dougie's tries but he had the knack of being in the right place to take the final pass and use searing pace to finish.

He's the equivalent of a penalty box striker in football. No skills but in the right place at the right time.

I don't know what's so special about Doug Howlett. These highlights only show that Howlett was scoring really easy tries. No extraordinary skills or long range tries.
@lolosaulala482 жыл бұрын
That's just it, he was Mr reliable. Always there at the right time. You'll see that had he not been there at those specific moments, even in field during broken play he'd be in support where none else were.

Words of a zoomer who never watched the man play. When you heard Howlett's name by the commentary team, you knew something special is most likely going to happen.
@N0Curve3 жыл бұрын
I'm not denying he's a good player. Just saying the trys they showed aren't the best doesn't show his true skill.
@mikedangerdoes3 жыл бұрын
Yea I was thinking the same thing. Can't deny that the guy got over the line a hell of a lot, but these "highlights" are mostly just him being the last man on the end of someone else's break.
