We need to see the Auckland inside half Awa in there for exposure's sake!!! Com' on Coaching Management, do the right thing!!! Great performance all around with loosies, locks and front rows. @@ropativ7483Dude, you're really ragging on Maia Joseph a lot. They have 4 contracted halfbacks; Hohaia, Bayler, Joseph and Awa.... What did you expect them to do for the Pac 4? Select two debutant halfbacks? The want to give all the squad members game time prior to the world cup. So, it makes sense to select 1 debutant half back for the Pacific 4 competition and then select the other for the WXV squad. Would you have preferred Awa to line up against the USA, Australia and Canada and have Maia Joseph play against Ireland, France and England? It makes perfect sense to me how they've selected the squad but you seem to think that Maia Joseph's selection suggests that the coaches believe she's better than Awa, or (and you've suggested this is other comments) that there's some type of nepotism happening and Joseph has only made the squad because of who her father is. Ridiculous.
@DarkMoonWayfarer5 ай бұрын
She wasn't selected in the Pacific 4 squad. It's not a big deal as they're trying to build depth. You will have noticed that Chelsea Bremner wasn't in the Pacific 4 squad, thats to give debutant Maama Vaipulu game time. Awa is a fully contracted player, so she will most likely be selected for WXV to line up against the big guns.

@@DarkMoonWayfarer It was good to field her some exposure in the USA game, BUT not the Canadian team! It exposed the incompetence of the management when they already got the red flags of Canada making mince meats of Australia and the USA team. Maia needs further development, and I'd hazard a suggestion that the Matatu halfback has more attributes for the BF than that of her selection in the first place! When I express opinions about the BF, I present them closer to technicalities of the game! Granted that it might sound offensive, but seeking logic about justifications of the decisions being made leading to undermining the BF brand in the bigger picture may involve surmisation that even you could not see or explain. All in all, I value your opinion nevertheless. After all, we all love the BF!

Not entirely sure thrashing a team that have never beaten NZ is the best preparation for meeting England later in the year at Twickenham. Despite the flashy tries against the US and Australia the series was a disappointment for the BFs despite all the praise from the media. The only side that were competitive with NZ beat them . Playing Canada in a three test series would of been far better preparation for September. NZ doesn't need any more 60+ run ins. Last year the English beat NZ easily and they weren't even at home. At Twickenham they will be huge and looking for redemption for the RWC loss in front of their home crowd and NZ has not shown yet they can deal effectively with the rush defence and quality set pieces yet.
@ropativ74835 ай бұрын
I completely agree! The game with Canada lost all fluidity and flow it was a complete mess. When a game is messy - usually, it's because of the inside and outside halves making wrong options despite the forwards working hard to secure and provide the balls up front! The backline was completely overwhelmed and easily shut down for receiving poor quality balls from the inside half and the outside half contributing in kicking away the possessions! Their new strategy of kicking away quality ball possessions proved to be a fatal lesson in the encounter with Canada! The game with Aussies yesterday saw the benefit of getting quality balls from the inside halves faster to the hole punchers in the centers, at least in the first two and half quarters. The quality fast distributions during breakdowns also saw how effective the loosies were working together with the inside and outside centers to keep the offense going! That all went messy when the inside half was subbed, despite retaining the same outside half in Hannah King, who was just awesome with performing the role yesterday! Love her game, doing all the basics of her role right!

So, they should completely get rid of the Pacific 4 competition and just play Canada 3 times? What a dumb comment. Australia have only recently introduced contracts for players and a full-time coach, so they're developing. Australia are hosting the 2029 rugby world cup, followed by the USA...but you're right they should just be tossed aside and we can all watch the NZ vs Canada show. It's not about preparing to play England or France at the end of the year...the WXV competition was implemented to help teams develop for the world cup. Especially WXV2 and 3, as the next world cup is expanding from 12 teams to 16 teams. WXV is meant to lift the standards of the women's game worldwide. The Pacific 4 competition should really be expanded to include Japan and Fiji.

@@Lou84mmYou're basing a hell of a lot on one game. It was pretty clear the difference that Hohaia, Bremner and Holmes made to the team today, but NZ need to build depth and are going to have to expose new players to high pressure games. Last year the game with Canada was closer than the score suggested. NZ thrive in dry conditions where their backs can show their stuff and rack up points as their opponent's fitness flags. This last game was a combo of NZ underperforming, a couple of newbies in the mix, weather conditions favouring Canada's conservative style, plus a bizarre refereeing display. I don't think that you could say that Canada have surpassed the Black Ferns in development. If they played again today the Black Ferns would likely win.
@garywagner24665 ай бұрын
Every team has to blood new players. When you put some inexperienced players out there, sometimes the balance goes off and the opposition can take advantage. Canada were highly motivated, saw their chances, and took them. In previous matches they missed those opportunities. Not that time. A loss is often good for a successful program. Wakes people up. Gives the coaches a teachable moment. You saw the result against Australia, admittedly with a weak defence. But the Black Ferns were inspired, and determined. Be careful when denigrating “minor teams” because you can’t have matches without an opponent. The entire women’s international structure is developing very well, and you want parity in the top ten. No other way for teams lower in the standings to improve without playing the top teams, and losing. But rubbing it in is unsportsmanlike and counter-productive. You want young girls in Canada and Australia to believe they can compete at that level, and take inspiration when it comes. Not just shrug and play a different sport.
