Rest in peace, Trevor. The world is a lesser place without your creativity, your drive, your leadership, your soul. You mentored so many to be good and loving in a depraved realm of existence, including and especially myself. From me to you my man, thank you for the memories, the laughs, the reflection, every show and every lyrical and vocal lesson you ever taught me. You will be missed for time eternal.

This is definitely something a lot of us in the community need to hear right now. Many of us struggle with so many inner demons, and we're taught to "suck it up" and led into the mentality of "just suffer through it, it's a passing thing" when in reality...sometimes it's not. Sometimes, it lingers. Sometimes, it refuses to release you. And sometimes...sometimes it forces its way into every corner of your mind and takes you down with it in the end. We all need to remember that sometimes, we can't do it alone. We can't fight it alone. We can't carry the burden alone. We're brothers and sisters in the Metal community. Reach out if you need help. Someone will listen Thank you, Allegaeon, for this wonderful masterpiece, and for all you guys do. RIP Trevor, you were an amazing person. You left us far too soon...

It's rare to see a band of this style approach this subject in earnest. It doesn't mince words about the violent nature of things, but it is not a song strictly of violence but rather of the conflicting, painful emotions that one goes through when going through the experience of losing someone to suicide. In doing so in such a way, the song ends up almost feeling heavier than many songs that tackle the subject strictly for shock value, both in terms of music and in terms of the emotions of the listener. it struck a chord with me the first time I heard it and a year later I still think this is one of the best metal songs I can think of, one that tells a story using the music and dissonance for effect, while also just being heavy and well mixed and played in general. And as someone who has both lost someone to suicide by gunshot and who has had to deal with both my own mental health struggles and who has had to talk several loved ones off a ledge over the years, Greg and the rest of Allegaeon, I appreciate that you dedicated this video and song to such a cause.
@gypsylynn452 жыл бұрын
I didn’t realize exactly why this was my favorite song on the album but now I get why. I suffered from depression and suicidal ideation for decades. This video was hard to watch I did the wall punching and trying to drown myself. This depiction is so spot on! I eventually got help for my mental health and for the most part have my depression under control. However last year I lost a close friend to suicide by gunshot and the blood on the band and the utter anguish I hear in Riley’s voice in “why did you suffer this alone all along?” I feel this to my core. Great job guys! ❤️🤘

In the web you left behind I fail to find or forgive myself Long and cold have they grown Sunless days in this home Often and over and over again Thoughts that won't come to rest Why did you suffer this alone all along? All dim, all pale, so lift me on the pyre The feast is over, the lamps expire Long and cold has it grown This road you wandered once Often and over and over again Led to inevitable ends Why did you suffer this alone all along? What desperation guides your hand to blanket these vacant walls? By keystroke you wrote, "I was called home," And through that action I lost my own Through that action I lost my own home The peace the trigger granted begat the horror of flesh and bone I only hope you found, that which was sought By keystroke you wrote, "I was called - called home." The dissolution of brotherhood brought by a mist of red - I am home Carried you thusly and later read That I, "deserve better," - what this life has fed Now I must embrace the lessons taught Everything you taught me I cleaned your blood from off the screen Scraped your brain matter, and let loose a scream Relegated your life to trash and unseen Shattered but grateful for all you did for me All you did for me The role you played was the most important of all Why did you suffer this alone? No one was with you when you died I am home
