The Nigerian Constitution and police laws regulate the police's power to enter and search premises. According to Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution, every person has a right to privacy, and their homes shall be inviolable. However, this right can be derogated from under certain circumstances, such as: 1. With a warrant: The police can enter and search a house with a warrant issued by a court, as stated in Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA). 2. In emergency situations: The police can enter a house without a warrant in situations like hot pursuit, to prevent the destruction of evidence, or to rescue someone in distress (Section 10 of the Police Act). 3. With consent: The police can enter a house with the owner's or occupant's consent (Section 10 of the Police Act). The police must follow due process and respect the rights of the occupants.

The Media can only question a member of the security agencies if the agency is the one that requires the presence of the media in a press conference. Even in such situation the security agencies are mindful of what questions to answer in detail especially when the investigation is still going on. In this case allegation is made against the police so it is understandable where the Police PR is in the studio. When security agencies are given information of suspect that they have the description on hand a search warrant may not always be necessary most especially if the suspect is likely to be on the run. The NLC was to fast to make call a press conference to accuse the security agencies as alleged. What could have possibly led to such search when the NLC just concluded the minimum wage award with the government. Like the PR has suggested once their investigation is completed they will notify the general public and outcome may be embarrassing to the NLC. It may be too late to apologize to the security agencies that were involved in the operation.
