Makes me want to cry. This was one of the last compositions I sang with my college Chior before covid ended my college career. We practiced this and it was hard at first. But eventually, the parts came together in great harmony. We were ready for concert. The word “alleluia” means praise God which is hard to do in a time like this where I graduated college with no ceremony and churches are being ordered to close. We never did sing this in concert. Still, God is worthy of praise since He sent His son to die for us. Please accept the free gift of Jesus’ sacrifice before it’s too late. He is coming back soon!!!

Blessings to you and your endeavors. I suggest joining your local church choir? My church- Olivet Nazarene University, has a very dedicated music program that acts as one with the church, they have two different groups, and one of the professors of music is the leader of the Gospel Choir. We also have the Orpheus Choir, quite like this. Do some research and you may re-live this experience except lead it.

I have listened to every performance of this piece on You Tube, and this is by far the best overall performance. In some of the others there are excellent "moments," but here the singing is under control at all times. The parts are evenly balanced and due attention is given to the gorgeous resolutions and transitions in the piece. The sopranos' upper range singing is silvery and not forced. Bravo!

I come back to this video every few years because it is a magical performance. I am overwhelmed with nostalgic feelings as I recall carrying the tenor line of this with my high school choir. There are several Alleluia/Hallelujah compositions, but this has always been my favorite. It evokes such a feeling. I have seen several other groups perform this song, but this particular group here has indelibly stained what I feel is a perfect cover of such a beautiful piece. The blend, the pacing, and the fact that no one in the choir hardly moved the entire time. The way they navigate the harmonies as the song winds down leads to an ending that still devastates me. Ugh, it just does it, for me! Even all these years later, bravo, brava!

The slight pull back around 3:17 to the soprano high Ab is lovely! It's often performed with a crescendo there - but the diminuendo is so much more effective!!

@dianewentz94005 жыл бұрын
HarringtonTribal & watchin -- I agree with you both. Depending on the version you listen to, this is a nice piece. But Dr. Allred seems to have a connection with bringing out the best of both of piece of music and those performing said piece. (A co-worker who pointed me in the University of Utah Choir also told me that most of the members of that choir were not music majors/minors. I trust this co-worker, so that means that Dr. Allred manages to bring out the very best in amateurs. That's important.) The fact that the sopranos so frequently "float" into notes that seem/feel "preposterously" high and, as a result, would seem to result in a "crescendo" (pummeling) of said notes is both astonishing and gorgeous. The "shimmer" of their vibrato is the "crystallization" of the icing on the cake.

😭😭😭😭🔥🔥 I remember singing this in the breezeway at 6am Chambers Practice my freshman year for a competition the same day we heard of the Oklahoma City Bombing.. it was so reverent and somber.. for a public school and 80+ teens to be singing with such a tenderness.. HS was the absolute worst.. but this is one of very few memories I can remember like yesterday. Singing it that foggy morning transcended time and was just so raw and earnest.
