ALLEN COGNITIVE LEVELS: Occupational Therapy Overview of ACL Scale PLUS Visual Study Guide!
Allen Cog levels (ACL) is an important scale for helping occupational therapists assess cognition in psychiatric, ABI, and dementia populations. This video reviews key information regarding each level with helpful visuals to help make the memorization process easy. At the end is a simplified visual overview to help with studying. Allen Cognitive Levels is also associated with the ACLS-5 assessment which is a classic OT assessment. Happy studying!

Your explanation is by far one of the best explanations of the ACL modes of performance. Thank you. Blessings on your journey in your OT career. A mnemonic I learned for the ACLs is: All Players Must Get Every Point

I really liked the way this was presented. I'm both an auditory and visual learner and I ALWAYS find it so helpful to solidify the information when visuals are included. Also Ive just started watching your videos and I really like them. NBCOT exam in 3 weeks! :D

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave an encouraging comment! I absolutely agree with you that having both the auditory and the visual support when learning makes it stick. I’m so glad this was helpful and I hope you absolutely crush your exam!:) Please feel free to share it with any classmates who you think might benefit from this. I always appreciate any help I can get to get the word out.

I like how simple but goal-directed your videos are, makes it them easy to understand. I would like case scenarios such as if a client is doing XXXX we can assume this patient is at a cognitive level of ***** so the best intervention would be *** but awesome videos I'm preparing for my exam so this is very helpful.

I may eventually provide those in some manner but I don't have that built out yet. Pinterest is great for additional visuals. I hope you find what you need:) ....and I hope you do awesome on your finals!!

Studying now, this is great. One small question, is it possible to enable KZbin CC on your videos? Not sure how that works or if it's a big ask going forward. Hope you're almost finished/finished now!

So I looked into it a bit more. It looks like CC has generated on most of my videos except 2 and I am not sure why it hasn't on this one. I reset some setting which I hope fixes it! If not I may need to add it manually if time allows. Thanks again!

Sounds like a great conceptualization yet being too gross it seems it wouldn't capture autistic functioning, ADHD or memory functioning in the background. Level 4 matches the most. Allen Cognitive Levels kinda like the InterRAI for Home Care. The questions of norming on the right population, what instruments are used for a given setting (eg, Home Care keys on admitting into LTC) and whether the assessment is used post-injury thus no baseline present. All of this doesn't transfer well to ppl with concussion/Cognitive, Developmental and/mental health. These instruments below miss adaptive behaviour Scales which might be covered by some categories across the clinical scales mentioned here. In some cases use would need scrutinization as in "Resource Allocation" in which interRAI covers areas of Home Care, Long Term Care, MH or ID: a) Utilization Groups-III and Home Care (RUG-III/HC; b) Resource Utilization Groups-III (RUG-III); c) System for Classification of In-Patient Psychiatry (SCIPP); and d) Case-Mix Groups for Developmental Disability (CMGDD) respectively respectively. In my local region there was a recall on a specific tool called the "Supports Intensities Scale by NADD" even though the assessment was thorough, presented ethical issues about the dimensions of life it talked about in the 3hr interview, as well as the unintended Resource Allocation issues that would've reduced hours of support for ppl with ID/DD. Clinical Scales of the interRAI covering Physical Function as ADL Hierarchy, ADL Long & Short Form Scales, Functional Hierarchy Scale, Instrumental ADL (IADL) Capacity Hierarchy Scale, IADL Performance and Capacity Scales ; in Cognitive Function the Cognitive Performance Scale; in Social Function including Communication Scale, Social Engagement; in Mood & Behavior the Aggressive Behavior Scale, Depression Rating Scale, Depression Severity Index, Mania Scale, Positive Symptoms Scale, Risk of Harm to Others, Severity of Self-Harm Scale, Self-Care Index, Social Withdrawal Scale; and in Health Status, Falls Risk Scale, Fracture Risk Scale and Pain Scale.
