Why can't she walk outside the house? If she is allergic to her husband, then why does he risk carrying her to and from the house? If she is immune to her siblings, why are they not taking her to her medical appointments? She appears quite healthy for someone who is so sick. I say all these things as someone with severe allergies who, with medication and other effective interventions, is able to live a very normal life.

I have MCAS and I am very lucky that Sutent, a chemotherapy drug (experimental for mast cell disorders) shuts down my immune system enough to stop my chronic, uncontrolled, spontaneous anaphylaxis.Before Sutent all the drugs we tried either triggered my anaphylaxis or created such deleterious symptoms they had to be discontinued (for example singulair made my lungs fill with fluid).Because of my Sutent and only because of my Sutent I am able to leave my house occasionally and eat food like a somewhat normal person.I still have MCAS reactions but they are painful, embarrassing or tiring now as opposed to being a 5 alarm "you are going to die if you don't get medical treatment right now!" events.MCAS is debilitating, unpredictable and terrifying disorder that is often progressive.Just as someone with a severe food/environental/venom allergy can find that a second exposure to an allergic is much worse that the initial exposure, MCAS patients very commonly react violently to something *even though it has been safe in the past*.With MCAS "safe" is based on a sliding scale of symptoms, nothing is truly safe.I am not in the habit of feeding trolls so I won't bother replying directly to any one in particular but I will say this:There is no rhyme or reason to MCAS, for the most part our doctors don't know *why* our mast cells freak out and dysregulate our immune systems (there are some rare cases where somatic mutations are detected but most MCAS patients are not lucky enough to be able to get results from genetic testing using peripheral blood, mast cells differentiate and settle into tissues, they don't hang out in blood in significant quantities). For me it came out of the blue; no family history of allergic type disorders, my personal health was never better.I was deployed to Afghanistan (I was an aircraft maintainer is the USAF) and suddenly I began passing out all over the place. Eventually I had an episode in front of our flight doctor who diagnosed and treated me for anaphylactic shock. At the beginning of the deployment I was fine at the end (just shy of 6mo) I was reacting with anaphylaxis to so much stuff that I couldn't eat without a reaction and common workplace exposures, things as innocuous ss Windex, were sending me into shock.It's pretty amazing that I didn't die.When I returned home I was sent to an allergist; my blood test came back without any significant allergies but I reacted to the whole skin prick panel with anaphylaxis.The allergist sent me to an oncologist.The oncologist told me that it was possible I had mast cell leukemia (very rare, very fatal cancer) and proceeded to biopsy everything and run every diagnostic he could think of.The only thing that came back abnormal was my histamine levels were through the roof.My oncologist consulted with Dr. Afrin (who coincidentally, is the expert in the video but he is not the only Dr. who is knowledge about MCAS) and my doctor was able to diagnose MCAS (after ruling out characinoid syndrome and a few other things).We then began trying to find a drug or drugs to stop my MCAS reaction, which eventually led to Sutent.I would like to iterate that I AM A LUCKY ONE! I am a patient with MCAS who was diagnosed quickly and found a treatment to stop my anaphylaxis.That doesn't mean I am symptom free:I am 100% P&T disabled, medically retired from the USAF because of my MCAS. I don't get out of the house much, I have bad reactions to scents and petrochemicals. Most of the time when I have a reaction I have no idea what caused it, its hard to pin down and even when I can definitely identity the culprit I can't generally *do* anything about it, except stay home or wear a mask and cover my skin when I go out. I'm like a canary in a coal mine, minute traces of things that most people never notice leave me gasping for breath and hypotensive. So STFU assholes.Fucking people on the internet SMH can't tell em' nothin.

@Ricksworld19626 жыл бұрын
Virtually Me With this disease, allot of things are unexplainable, but very real. Among other things, my wife’s sense of smell is highly elevated. I am not able to separate my wife’s room from the central forced air of the rest of the house. I have an extra fine particulate filter covering her air vent, and have a box fan with the same filters, to recirculate the air in her room, while removing particulates like smoke. If someone else comes into the house, she can smell them, even without knowing anyone else is there. She can even tell if there were more than one person. If I eat a hamburger with catchup and or mustard, I cannot be in her room because the small amount of garlic causes her to go into anaphylaxis. Very small amounts of Onion, cinnamon, vinegar, and many other natural items do the same. Not to mention the extreme effect that all chemicals cause on her 😔. She is in a constant state of being on the verge of anaphylaxis, and Every day, waits for the next dose, fearing her Diphenhydramine is going to fail her. I would have never imagined any of this was possible, but we live it every day 😔. She is not able to prepare her own meals, and cannot handle smells brought into the house by others, so I work night shift, to allow me be home during the day to prepare all of her meals for her. Two days ago, she had to stop taking Ketotifen (a Mast Cell Inhibitor) because her body was rejecting it. Currently we have no more options, and like this young woman, also hope for the miracle of a new medication. It’s very heartbreaking, and lonely for a person with this extreme condition, as they have to live in solitude. Rick

I have some pretty severe and obnoxious anaphylactic allergies, but this story just isn’t right. I was so perturbed I looked around more. Her “anaphylaxis” is a subjective feeling of choking. Her face doesn’t swell up. She isn’t covered in hives. She doesn’t get vomiting or diarrhea to the foods she is supposedly allergic to. There is no way that smells, period, can cause a reaction. She claims elsewhere that they the only people she can stand to have in the room with her are her siblings because they are genetically “most like” her but that is factually incorrect. She is more almost certainly genetically similar to her parents, as each is guaranteed to be 50% in common, while her siblings may have much less. Heating the furniture should not have helped her if she reacted to a lot of things. Nothing adds up. She seems to have an incredibly deep psychosomatic disease-a mental illness. Until her family realizes this, she will never get better.
@Sarah.Riedel5 жыл бұрын
...You have got to be kidding. Seriously this has got to be a joke. How much do you know, really, about Johanna Watkins and her condition? Have you read or heard ANYthing about her at all beyond this one documentary? (Since I suspect the answer is no, you may like to check out Scott's blog, in which he explains their day to day life in great detail.) You literally know less than 10 minutes' worth about her, and yet here you are making categorical statements of fact as though you actually knew what you were talking about. "Her anaphylaxis is a subjective feeling of choking." What? She's been admitted to the ER nearly a dozen times with acute anaphylaxis, which presents with clear, obvious, unmistakable symptoms. Are you suggesting every emergency room physician in Minneapolis either cannot identify anaphylaxis, or is somehow "enabling" this girl to lie about her condition? You make zero sense. "Her face doesn't swell up." Except it does. You can even see it in the few home videos she's uploaded. "She isn't covered in hives." Except she develops hives constantly. Even her immunoglobulin treatments have caused "a strong negative reaction with large hives, difficulty breathing, and painful migraines among other distressing symptoms; these symptoms lasted for days, and the effects were traumatic." "She isn't vomiting," except she does, all the fucking time. Just one example of many... "In the past weeks, there have been two episodes where Johanna has had sixteen hours of severe vomiting, stomach inflammation, and symptoms akin to food poisoning." Honestly I'm so curious, where exactly are you getting your "information" from? Please tell me you're not purporting to be better informed, having watched a single 9 fucking minute documentary than Johanna's own doctor who is one of the country's leading experts on MCAS. Is he, too, in on the scam? Johanna also suffers from dangerously low hemoglobin as a result of her illness, which also causes severe swelling - at its worst her levels were a 3 (a healthy range is 12-15). This is literally a black and white, measurable, observable thing. Do you think Johanna is somehow fooling the lab technicians who run her bloodwork? I mean the sheer ignorance here is astounding. STATING - not even hinting, or implying, but just outright stating as if it were a "fact" - that a woman whose condition threatens her life on a daily basis is simply "being dramatic" or is suffering from a "mental disorder" is possibly one of the cruelest and most wildly offensive, abhorrent things I've ever seen anyone write on KZbin. I've read a lot of abhorrent comments over the years, but yours without a doubt takes the fucking cake.

Again just for clarity food medications certain materials totally understandable but she's taking up the home of her friend making them cook outside and having no contact with her husband she doesn't want to be with her husband she should just divorce him

ABSOLUTELY! HIS might be true love, but her's is definitely selfish! Her family should take on the burden, not that poor man! True love is NOT being a burden! That poor man has given up his life to be her carer! I get it, it's sad, but why should he shoulder the responsibility? Stupid religious freaks!

And now she's so desperate the only news coverage she can get for her story is a half-wit Australian to exaggerate everything and in the new video the husband smells the reporter extremely briefly and then talk some video chat to her downstairs below him as she's wearing makeup so again this is an exaggerated case whether they're getting money for it for disability or just media attention

HE is allowing this, for a reason. Peacfully ask and await. in the right time HE will reveal it to you. I know. I was diagnosed with cancer around 2007...... I needed to quit smoking before theyd treat me, i said ok, i will let you know when i do. Right after that i prayed and left it in HIS hands and just waited......untreated.....it went away. Mind you, my father, my uncle, second cousins, died from cancer and my mother had a rough time with cancer so my persentage of cancer is high. Be Honest with yourself and HIM over it, with your fear, anger, all of it.

It's a little far-fetched and it does sound like she's a hypochondriac the scent of people and a camera or an electronic giving her an allergy understandably Foods materials but something being in the room that's just drastic and over-exaggerated
@chloeprint-lambert47506 жыл бұрын
Tony Harris plastic cameras carry scents and that is likely what she is reacting to. If the camera has been in a room when cooking those allergens will stick to the plastic in scent. Same with someone holding it with perfume on, a smoker or any cleaning products used in close proximity to the camera. Plastic is porus and holds smells a long time. This condition is so debilitating and it is deadly- that is no exaggeration. We loose people to Mast cell related diseases often and since Christmas when there is heightened new allergens coming into houses, more smells when it and about with foods etc, we have seen multiple charity members pass away from non controllable anaphylactic reactions, a frightening amount. Please me more open minded, not understanding a condition doesn’t mean that the condition is fabricated or doesn’t exist.

And can't be touched why because her skin reacts it's get red white sores or blisters like most reactions ,nope nothing not a thing happens to her skin she just suddenly becomes sick it must be after she licks her arm right to get sick or rub your arm in your nose or eyes that is how you get sick not for something touching your skin

The condition typically starts at a lower severity and increases over time as your body becomes more reactive. Its a progressive illness.
