Well Patrick, I found this video 3 yrs later while I was searching for some flint ridge videos, which I did find but seeing how I have a bunch of pieces this size that I heat treated recently so I'm in this rabbit hole at the moment. I tend to get scatterbrained at times but I'll go back to the flint ridge videos before I make that road trip next spring.

I would like to see another video on making a point from a flake if you wouldnt mind. I'm new to knapping and I'm having a hard time figuring it all out.

Jack I have red jasper and I want to keep the color but I’m worried if I heat treat the color will go away and if I heat treat Jasper is it going to be easier to knap

At about 6 minutes 10 seconds there are step fractures. I have a lot of trouble with those even on good material like Obsidion. I am wondering I’d it is because I’m using a steel bopper for indirect percussion?

Could be. There are many reasons for step fractures.

If you drill hole in handle then drive point of nail in..leaving head of nail..then cut head of nail off..then ahape the cut end.

Would you be interested in wrought iron rods to try out instead of steel? Harder than copper but softer than steel. I have some highly refined wrought I could work down into rods for you.

That sounds awesome. Shoot me an email to jackcrafty2@gmail.com

Here are my issues. No good material at the moment so all my preforms are mostly flakes with big bulbs of percussion or the are very curved or twisted. Plenty usable but for some reason I want to learn with abo only and I don't have good enough technique for knocking out problems before they get worse. Any vids you have that focus on bulb of percussion removal?
@KnapperJackCrafty4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've got a few vids where I attack large bulbs. But I just zig-zag them, or attack them from the sides. I can do one for you on the next video.

is inclusion the word you were looking for to describe those internal faults? hey, nice job. nice fat little point to be thinned. i will crush up another box of chert if you send it. i did get a couple of points, well i will call them points, hahaha.
@KnapperJackCrafty4 жыл бұрын
Haha... yeah, inclusions are made of a different material. I think these are simply internal cracks. I'll look it up.

Trying to work black tough rhyolite. Thinning early helps but corner knocking I'm haveing lots trouble . You make sum of this look easy but you are very right bout upper body strength. Those early knappers must have been very fit . Thanks I really like you video. Ssss

Rhyolite takes some getting used to. It'll give you a workout, that's for sure.
