Earlier this week Ruth went to visit someone very close to all of our hearts - Amy May Shead - a loved member of the This Morning team, who continues to live with the devastating effects caused by a severe allergic reaction to nuts. After five years living in care - Ruth went to visit her new purpose-built home to find how she, her family and The Amy May Trust are getting ready to launch special bracelets to raise awareness about the kind of allergy that changed Amy May’s life forever.

My favorite bit about this piece was the way the lady at the beginning referred to her as OUR COLLEGUE. She is still at her desk in their hearts and thats powerful.

I love how well her family takes care of her and still makes her feel beautiful by putting makeup and jewelry on her. ❤

Our great niece is deathly allergic to all nuts! She’s 15 1/2 now! Rayne is gorgeous, intelligent, and so very talented, plays the violin beautifully. I pray to God to protect her daily, that she never has to be in a situation, that could cause her the slightest harm. I pray this young lady has made improvements. God Bless from the USA 🇺🇸🇬🇧

Speaks volumes that Eamon and Ruth were the ones championing this cause and involving the production staff…. Unlike other presenters of this show at the time that we have all heard about a lot the past 12 months.

Our family is plagued by various allergies, though thankfully not to nuts & not as severe as Amy's allergies. My heart goes out to you & your family Amy. I'm so sorry this happened to you. But I'm glad people have come together to make sure you have everything you need. And it's clear that you will always be loved by your ITV This Morning family too. You're an amazing young woman.

They just did an update on her in the video titled, "Food Allergy Awareness: 'Someone’s Life Is In Your Hands!'". Unfortunately, she's not doing too great - in December 2022, she began having a lot of seizures and has been very depressed since then.

Does she still know who she is? I heard that she could understand what people are saying so maybe Amy is still in there, she just can't communicate outwardly. If so then it is her as a person.... hopefully medicine advances enough to help her out. that or maybe there could be a way for her to communicate.

I think this is tricky because they could have been 100% sure they weren't using nuts however the food chain supply is very complex, some ingredients could have been made in facilities with nuts and they wouldn't know

I think we either need to just stop eating nuts as a society or folks like this really can’t eat out. No disrespect but like, if you’re that deathly allergic, why would you to travel to central/Eastern Europe where you don’t speak the language and eat at a random restaurant and just show your allergy card and hope for the best??

They aren't keeping her alive. She IS alive. She isn't hooked up to machines that they can unplug. What would you have them do at this point? Kill her? That would be murder. I agree that no one would want to live like this, but things like this happen to people everyday. The doctors did everything they could to save her life. No one can predict how much brain damage a person will have because everyone is unique and every situation is different. The parents are suffering as much, if not more than Amy.

This comment is cruel! How can you say such a thing, I’m sure if this was your child you’d want too keep her alive it’s a mrical she lived from her reaction. She’s an inspiration for people who go through the same thing she is going through it’s a wake up call for people with nut allergies to make aware of how dangerous it can be. The fact you can sit behind a screen and write something like this is disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself.

@@xxmiadalyxx5489 It's not a "miracle." It's a fate worse than death. If given the choice between this and death, literally everyone would choose death. It's the complete opposite of a miracle. It's an example of, if God exists, he's evil and reprehensible beyond words.

"isn't this beautiful to see?" Are you serious? The only thing nice in that situation is that the caretakers- who live in suffering because of this- don't have to drive an hour to the hospital daily anymore. This is extremely sad, like waking up to take care of a family member that is dead.. but you're keeping her alive. As hard as it is, euthenasia is the only logical answer here . R.I.P Amy, I am mourning for you today.

@@barbiegirlthrifter6841 I don’t see how she would want to live that way. She’ll never recover and can’t live independently at all. You can’t be selfish in these situations because the only person who’s hurting right now is her.
