Finally got it off! Took it to friend who had all the spanners. It still wouldn’t budge. In end we got it off with a hammer and chisel!

Was this the white cog? Bought spanner’s but still struggling. So angry at the design of the cartridges

I was having the same issue as others - the nut on the plastic attachment was on way too tight. I managed to get a 24mm socket wrench that fit the nut perfectly, but one of the plastic rivets connecting the arms of the scarifier ended up snapping with the pressure (turning clockwise) and the nut still didn’t budge.

Yeah, 2 years on from all your comments, I’ve had the same experience with the white plastic cog…insanely frustrating…as soon as I’d destroyed the cog, the nut loosened easily.

@@ALLETTMOWERSUK it is, however, at 9 am Sunday May 1st 2022, an excellent cartridge..you got to sort that out because it tempered my child like zeal in wanting to use it.

I have commented before on the Liberty 35 and the issues i encountered on getting it fit for purpose. What i find now is that if i use the reel on anything lower than 5, it makes a suspect noise. I wasn’t expecting to have to have a degree in engineering in order to mow the lawn but i suspect that i should have got one. To have to remove a total of 9 Allen key screws, the motor belt, remove the cartridge and then rescrew 9 times (3 of which you have to thread through 3 cogs and then wrestle with the belt) is not the definition of easy. The control to alter the cut is also temperamental. I am presently waiting (4 weeks +) for something that will raise the cut so that when you happen to go away for anything longer than a week you are able to cut the grass. This is ignoring the issue i had in order to actually use two of the cartridges where a large plastic disc had to be removed and it seems thrown away. I ultimately bought a wrench kit as no spanner would budge. Suspect a nearby ship yard had been used to put the nut on. You will notice that the video above has the lawn mower on a table. If you are unable to lift onto a table get used to lying on the ground in order to do the above. My stories of this lawn mower have kept my friends laughing at least as i am known for buying ‘the best’. £1,200 spent just because i didn’t want a plug in.

Took delivery of my scarifier today, but I'm having the same issues as everyone below - despite definitely turning the gear clockwise, can't get it to come away from the thread. Is there anything else that I can be doing to help?

Agreed. I’ve used adjustable spanner and a vice. Still won’t budge. Hack sawing is a last resort. Will this do any damage?

Hi. I have been turning it right, but with a normal spanner I can’t get the purchase. I’ll have to get hold of a ring or ratchet spanner and see if that works. What I can say is it’s nothing like as easy as this video would suggest.

It seems like a common problem though. I’ve definitely only turned it clockwise (to the right), but it’s like it’s superglued

I’m also having a problem with the 14” aerator cartridge. First of all is it compatible with the Liberty 35 as this one has no way at all of connecting it to the fan belt

It’s a shame I can’t send a picture to compare cartridges, but from the video he calls the white cog and the metal replacement a ‘pulley mounting’. The aerator has no way of attaching either, but still comes boxed with a bag of fixings. It says in the instructions the aerator isn’t powered. Is this why there’s no way of fixing it to the fan belt? If so, why does it come with the fixings? I’m confused

Absolutely agree that the plastic cog on the scarifier is almost impossible to remove to allow it to be fitted. Can't move it....any suggestions?

Hey William- I eventually had to hacksaw the white plastic cog off. There is no recess that allows you to get a spanner head in the achieve any purchase. I don’t have a socket set of that size but that may be an alternative.

I eventually put the white cog in a bench vice, then used a garden fork to stick in the rotor and gently unscrewed it.

Allett Mowers the video did make this very clear (and the video is really helpful), but the bolt was just super tight and it is very hard to get a spanner onto the top of it anyway.

Allett Mowers no, was definitely doing it the correct way. WD40 and finally a hacksaw got me there. Bolt was on far, far too tight and there is no recess on that white plastic cog.

Replacement cartridge implies easy. Seriously who wd buy this if they knew they needed to have a factory of tools and friends on hand for assistance. Had it a month and hate it. Cut is poor too

Allett Mowers used the Allen key. Trying to fit the brush. Three of us are trying and it is now sitting in the garden with various bits. Had to remove the cog wheel to lift the cartridge out. Now can’t get the band back. There’s comments of hammers being used and drawing off the white cog. A video showed it being lifted out and replaced no mention of any screws. Even my gardeners said it was a dreadful cut.
