A very thorough and fascinating talk - and a telling riposte to the repeated criticism of County pitches. Still can't make my mind up...that game in which Surrey scored 400-odd and the we batted out scoring over 500...is that what lthe crttics call a poor pitch???

whats the idea with the ply wood?

It is used at the run up to the pitch as that area where the pitch/square ends and the outfield begins can be moisture laden. Using the plywood under the roller prevent ruts and water coming to the surface due to the weight of the roller. Also, over time, the roller could cause a groove affect in the area. You want an even and level run up for the bowlers.
