I love how you have your students back between two trucks with actual people sitting in them watching you back. Trucking students need that practice. Backing between two trucks at a truck stop with all trucker eyes on you was the scariest thing I did as a new driver.

Why does everyone say "I'm gonna get out of my truck" without explaining that you need to put it in neutral, set the parking brake, exit while maintaining 3 points of contact? Might be helpful to us rookies to remember this. :)

I struggled with backing up for months , its tough and confusing when you don't have an instructor. So Ill give you new guys a tip because sometimes its so basic that instructors over look it. whenever you do a see side back, (your driver side closest to the hole) Your always going to turn the wheel to the right I didn't have an instructor So It used to confuse the shit out of me . So theres nothing to think about now. You know your going to turn the wheel to the right . #2 Distance from the hole is always a good thing when you can get it You can go slow and glide it in better. #3 Make sure there is enough room for your tractor to straighten up .You can set up perfectly only to realize you cant straighten up your tractor due to an obstacle . You have to ajust your set up and come in at a deeper angle .Use the rear wheels of the trailer to aim . Pick a spot that lines up with the dock door , Use any mark on the ground, puddle tire tracks . You may say Ok two feet past the crack or puddle Aim your rear wheels for it .

Cdl school told me not to watch videos because they will make you fail the test. Then I got out on the road and found out why. The test has exactly zero to do with reality. You almost never straight line back, at least with set lines. I have yet to have to offset exactly one lane over. Alley docking in real life let's you get out and look plus pull up infinite times, and if you encroach, you Probably lose your job. It's cool because I can parallel park every time though. 5 grand well spent. Now if only I could figure out how to move the rear of the trailer like 10 degrees in instead of exactly 90. God damn.

Please explain the righty tight with regards to backing. I know if the trucks drifting left turn left and same for drifting right
@windofheaven072 жыл бұрын
What you're talking about is when you can see both sides of your trailer in your mirrors; that is, when you're straight backing. When you have such a pronounced angle between your truck and trailer (during an alley dock, for instance), you're only looking down your driver side mirror, so a turn to the left is going to slow your cut, whereas a turn to the right is going to increase it.

Small cut, long distance = having a LOT of space. TONS of wide open GIGANTIC space. This happens maybe, only 10% or less of the time. That makes this tutorial more to serve the maker of the video, than to actually teach the backing student. Very, very unrealistic.
@DNice58652 жыл бұрын
