It's based on the life of Abdul Latif who started his mafia career as a bootlegger. In the 80's he ruled the mafia world of Gujarat (the of state of India from where our Prime Minister Modi hails). He led to the rise the Hindu right-wing party called the BJP to power in that state in the 90's whose party's slogan was " when you are voting just keep Latif in mind". When that party came into power he was allegedly encountered in the late 90's.

Actually (Raees) Shahrukh in the movie is rally nice but he's shit to the bad guys and they deserve it lol I really love the film and didn't think it was long. I've watched longer SRK films like almost 4 hours and loved even that long film so.:)
