The best advice anyone ever gave me when I was in Florida: When approaching any body of water in the state, ALWAYS assume there is an alligator there. I was on the banks of a larger pond looking for fish in the water. Lo and behold, about two feet from me an alligator snapped at the surface and swam away. I was looking right where he was laying and didn't see him right there in front of me. The water on the edge couldn't have been deeper that 1 foot. Scared me senseless.

Very good advice. Florida born and raised here while visiting a friend in Michigan I joined her and some of her neighbors swimming in a nearby lake. As a Florida girl I'm used to looking around me in the water for alligators and was doing the same in Michigan, my friends neighbors laughed at me for it but I told them if they came to Florida for vacation they would not look around them and would probably find themselves in danger. In Florida if you're around any water be on the lookout for predators of all kinds.

For your bait issue, get some little mesh bags to put the bait in inside of the trap. That'll keep the bait together and separated so you can easily pull it out from everything you catch.

Scary how close that gator was to the kids and Kelly. That gator was just waiting for anyone of them to move his way and strike......thank god Kelly and the kids did not go that direction....but 10 feet of movement towards the gator and one of them would have been done for.....
