That tractor sounds great! A year in the shop and you ought to have a handy tractor around the farm...👍

Interesting. I also have an early model gas One Seventy and I need to go through the brakes. The manual in your video probably isnt the original manual for your tractor. The manual it is for a "170" (late model), serial 7500 and up. The decals on your tractor and the hydraulic pump location indicate that your tractor is first gen "One Seventy". That may explain the issue with the shifter rails, a One Seventy might be different than late 170. (Or maybe not.)

I have a d17 series 4 that needs a lot of work. So if they're similar, this will be educational.

Looks like a great winter project. I'm looking forward to seeing it happen. I posted a winter project on my channel but don't have a heated shop to work in so probably ( ?) won't get a lot done on it but did start today as it was warm and sunny. Thanks for sharing!

great tractor!! mechanic told me one of the hardest things to do to that transmision was to pull the torque back in low sjde in road gear with a loaded wagon!! it puts a strain on the transmion. causing them to jump out of 4th gear. he said tractors on flat land didnt bother like tractors that came from hilly country. l should say using low side to slow down ground speed!! l be watchin!!!
@farmerpete
@farmerpete Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm in hill country all right. People also wreck these transmissions trying to shift gears with the tractor still moving.

Nice handy tractor for sure. If you want it to sound even better buy the original Nelson from AW Tractor in Cecil Wisconsin. He is the only place that has them. As far as the grill, there are rubber bumpers that go in the front that the grill pushes up against. If those are bad or missing the grill will fall off. Grills for 170s are worth big $$$. As far as bumpers, Agco still has them available. The dealer in Fort Atkinson Iowa stocks them I believe. I used to work there. I'm guessing Scott Imp would have them too.

Thanks! I will get new rubber bumpers for sure! I've heard those grills are like gold. I'll make sure mine is secure.

Great project tractor - should be a real solid performer by the time you finish. We just went through a troubleshooting project on our 170 gas, to find that the ballast resistor was intermittent. It would work well, then just stall out under load as though the gas or ignition cut out. Wait a bit and it would work again for months. Finally got so bad that we could detect by wiggling the resistor. Because the open iron windings can be exposed to the humidity, the rust slowly ruins it. We're looking at replacing with a modern sealed resistor to fix the problem permanently. It has 7000-some hours also and just keeps on ticking.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to having this in service next year. Intermittent electrical problems are always fun to diagnose.
