Hey, Allison! I just discovered your channel a couple days ago and have basically been binging all of your videos! Honestly, I’ve been going through an extremely dark time in my life. But your videos are genuinely like a warm hug and a cozy cup of hot chocolate. I love your positivity, as well as your vulnerability and the way you share what you’ve been pondering, learning, and feeling. Genuinely, the sun feels more bright since watching your videos, and I haven’t been this excited about art and learning in a long time. Thank you so much for inspiring me to set out on this journey of learning gouache, and thank you for opening that door inside of me that led to hope, warmth, and life. Art is about using beauty as a way to inspire, help, and heal people’s hearts. So in that way, Allison, you are one of the most “successful” artists I know. You are doing wonderful things, and you are going to go to some beautiful places! 💕

Oh my goodness this absolutely means the world to me!! I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been going through such a hard time, but I’m so glad my videos have helped you even in a small way. 🥰 I’m SO EXCITED that you’re beginning your gouache journey! It’s such an amazing experience 💛

Your frustration about lost skills is totally relatable. I too am😂 in a season where I can't come up with my own ideas. I have been copying pictures. It isn't fun. To go along with that, I had learned to draw heads and basic shapes. I got faster and more accurate. I stopped sketching everyday through the holiday season last year. For the life of me i can't do any of those skills now. It's discouraging 😢 and frustrating to have wasted the hours and months it took to learn the first time.

Ughhh it can be SUCH a struggle!! Just remember time spent practicing was never a waste (even though it may feel like we’ve lost those skills when we haven’t used them for a while.) You’ll come out on the other side of this an even better artist than you were before!! 💛

Thank you for this video. I enjoyed listening to your thoughts about relearning basics and fundamentals. It is hard going back to things that you think you should know already. It is humbling. I have been in the same boat but, with the difference of relearning art all over again after years of being out of practice. Also, your painting skills are very impressive. I hope to improve on my lighting skills with my illustrations as well. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!

Awww thank you so much!! It is definitely humbling having to relearn things we’ve already known before, but it’s all part of the creative cycle 🥰

Your color and light work is so inspiring! And the commentary is refreshing. Sort of taking the middle ground on the whole "quantity over quantity" in favor of understanding that everyone needs to find their own pace is nice to hear. Thanks for uploading!
