I have a Nikon and I love it but I wish I studied more about the differences between Canon, Nikon, Sony. Everyone is telling me to switch Sony, haha. One minor thing I don't love about Nikon is their mobile app which I used in my latest video-it's just so laggy compared to Canon's and really makes self-portraits hard!

Like you said, ALWAYS buy used, especially lenses (from a seller that accepts returns). MPB is amazing for used gear. But after a few months if you turn around and sell the gear on eBay, you can usually break even. Any money lost can be chalked up to an imaginary very small rental fee.

@@abbyjoystudio don't stare blind on sony. Nikon is a great company too and has some awesome glass too. Now Nikon is somewhat behind the others at the moment.. but be patient. Nikon will eventually make a comeback and will be innovating great stuff. Check out brandon woelfels channel he shoots on Nikon, i bet it didnt make any difference if he shot it on a Sony lol.

When I bought my Fuji camera I decided to go with the kit lens. I don't regret it because I wasn't ready to use prime lenses and a zoom lens is more familiar to me. Once I got more used to my camera I bought a cheaper prime lens by Meike for practice. I have not bought a higher quality lens yet, but since I'm not a photographer (I mainly shoot on my travels) I think it's not bad for a beginner with zero experience!

I've been collecting camera gear since 2010. I now have 3 dslr's and 2 mirrorless. My second mirrorless is a $1700 camera that I got used for $850 and works just as good as new. Mostly take pics for reference material to draw and paint but want the best quality for fine details. I always go for the quality glass and have never regretted it. I've even taken over 30,000 pics through the windshield of the truck I drive. Mostly aim and click and hope for the best. Get a bunch of blurry, crooked and pics focused on bug splatters, but most come out great. Use those for watercolors.

Totally agree with the fancy lens+okay camera setup. I started with an entry level camera body but I even got hired for a few jobs with this setup lol. It also helped me to understand what I’m looking for in a camera body and to be creative squeezing everything bit of performance out of my camera. Great video!

I've bought my first DSLR Canon 5D mark ii used. I upgraded to a Canon 5D mark iii (that I also bought used). I recently bought a Canon Rebel T7 used from a pawnshop. Both the two lenses I use I bought used. I have never had a problem with used camera or used lenses. I've bought from various retailers online for my used gear in my kit. Both my Canon 5D mark ii and iii I bought used from a friend that works as a cameraman operator.

Something I’ll disagree on is the kit lens part, it depends on the camera you buy, more importantly the company, as an example I’ll use on system, the 12-45 kit lens is one of the best lenses for the camera but on a canon the typical 18-55( idk don’t remember ) isn’t the greatest, the body is plastic , ( which is kinda every lens for canon and many brands lol) and bassicly it is not a super lens 3:13 , wroooong the camera body is extremely important for depth of field m43 has bassicly in no depth of field

I got a kit lens with my Canon 6D and it is a great lens EF 24-105 L Zoom. It's a really nice walk around lens. I generally agree with your advice but it really depends on what comes with the kit if it's a Canon EF L series Lens or RF series it's generally an excellent lens. That being said I did purchase my 7d MK II without a lens but I already had EF L lenses I use.

As a starting point for beginners the kit lens is perfect. And if you're a bit advanced and work carefully, it will always allow prints up to 20x30cm in really good quality. OK, there's one downside: If you want/need a narrow depth of field, go for a faster lens.

This was a very informative video. I have personally been looking to upgrade my camera gear, because i assumed i needed newer gear in order to produce better images. My starter camera is a canon Eos 350D from 2005, and using the kit lense of 18-55 with 3.5-6.6 aperture, it has fallen short to produce the type of images i wanted. I really wanted the portraits with the blur in the background. and now I know it is not the body of the camera that is preventing it, but the lens. So might invest in a better lens before making the commitment to a whole new camera setup,

Some great advice here. I wish I had bought used originally.... and these days its definitely all about having a lens system. Having never bought a kit lens I find it ironic that I would say that the questionable advice you gave is not to buy the kit lens. My first camera was a 7D and instead of buying a kit lens - I bought a 24-105 F4 L... which was a big mistake (because the crop factor meant I couldn't shoot wide). When I first switched to Sony I bought the 24-240, which is not the kit lens, but is also not known for performance. It is a great lens hiking and travelling, and I would say has taught me the most out of any lens I have owned. It taught me that I don't need super wide aperture to get shallow depth of field (F6.3 at 240MM and fairly close give creamy background). It taught me how to work around my gear limitations. It taught me which focal lengths I favour and that I should invest in for primes. I guess my point is that it's a great learning tool. My advice for people buying a camera is to buy a kit lens, and a cheap wide aperture prime.... from that they can work out what they actually want to invest in...

some very bad advice! So, it seems to me that almost everything suits you, starting with the sweetest 100d this is sl1 (650-700 >> 2000d >>> sl2) and ending with m200 (m3-m6, m100), including 77d - it is close in price to 70d, but the new product* most likely hasn’t been killed over the years. But it seems to me that 600d or 650 + Tamron 17-50 can also surprise you. Yes, the newer the more convenient it is. Pay attention to the models where dual pixel appeared. Also pay attention to STM lenses - such as 24, 40 or 50mm - they are created for video. Sports or weddings? The capabilities of 7D are quite enough, and for Olympus it’s the old E-M1 or M5ii, for Nikon it’s D7100. Film yourself at home, for example, while training for streaming or ASMR? the a5100 + sigma 19mm 2.8 or the kit 18-50 from the Sony box are more suitable here. If you want to photograph everything around you and your family with a tripod, experiment in photo school and make money from portraits - then d3400 +35.G (if the bokeh is cool then 50.G) or the analogue of those years for sigma 30, by the way, perhaps it will be Yongnuo or excellent samyang (with a sensor like sl3-80d-d5500-d7200 level ) - it won’t let you down, ***one thing... it’s important to remember, Nikons don’t have such a cool focusing system as Canon or Sony in video mode and the picture will be “breathe” until you learn to use manual focus in the lens, for example, choosing a 5.6 aperture, and I also don’t know whether Nikon for the younger line has solved the software problem with displaying live exposure. The fact is that the photographer will not know the amount of light in the frame until he watches the video itself, unlike photographs - everything was in order there. And also, old videos from Michael Maven from the 700d vs d5200 series will be very helpful in choosing. And remember, learning about constant light and flash, as well as color and post-processing (not in Lightroom), will give you a lot more fun than all those numbers above

I have a hair salon and i want a camera which is super good with colors, so i can show the exact color that my stylist can create on people's hair. I need the camera be brutly honest and show the real color. not to make it look better or worst than it is.
