It’s so hard to shade match in general, let alone since they don’t have much of a brick & mortar presence where we can go in and get shade matched. I’ve been wanting to try their potted concealer, but haven’t been able to bring myself to guess at the shade for that price.

You made a very good point in that I think the majority of people would swipe too much when testing for colours, I myself have learned that the hard way in the past. When I’m trying them with my husband, I ask him and he will say things like “I don’t know, I can’t see anything” which is more helpful than he realises 😂❤

Good explanation. I’m a pale, blue-veined gal who never tans and a perfect BR12 👌🏻😄 You are so right about the perfect shade disappearing on your skin, BR12 does just like the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk 3.75, which I love! I cannot handle any hint of orange in a foundation even if it’s their palest colour, I can’t wear any Estée Lauder foundations as they all look too orange on me with a visible jawline colour difference even if it’s a cool shade! Bobby Brown are good for cool, pale, pinky undertones as well and I’ve found a perfect match with them too.

Allison, you gave the best advice on matching I've heard! Especially for us ladies whose face is lighter than our neck and bodies! Beauty counter ladies always want to match my neck only and the overall foundation is always too dark. Bronzing it up is the much better advice! This is a great explanation of skin shade vs neutral, warm, olive or cool undertones. Undertone is the hardest thing to get straight. I’ve never been tested at the Chanel counter, but I’ve concluded I’m fair skinned with primarily neutral undertones. I have green and blue veins, so it didn’t require rocket science! I just love your channel Alli! ❤❤❤

❤ Very informative Ali. Luckily through trial and error I've worked out my skintone and undertone. Chanel's B10 is perfect for me. I've just dusted off Les beiges waterfresh tint in light. For the summer, that's a hair too light for me, so I'll pick up medium light next time I'm in our nearest big town. A nice light summer make up tutorial sounds just the job. Thank you.

I’m a light warm olive and there aren’t many brands that have lighter olives. I used to be annoyed, but then I learned to make my own shade with a drop of green shade adjuster in a warm foundation. Now I don’t sweat shade matching! It would be nice not to have to do that, though. This was a very thorough and great explanation on how to shade match!! 💕

I have light medium rosey olive. Always blending a variety of colors to make them work. I went years without knowing I was olive. I use to joke that my skin at its lightest I green. It would be fun to go to a counter with you. ❤

Very informative video! 🙂 You should do one for concealer because it’s very confusing and many people tend to go with a wrong shade. I am B20 in foundation and recently I bought the Sublimage concealer. I was sure that 20 is the wright shade but the lady from the Chanel counter recommended 32. She said 20 is ok but because I have a darkness under eyes 32 is better because acting like a corrector and concealer and I have a better coverage. I bought 32 and it’s perfect for the place where I have dark circles but if if I want to cover all under eye area is too dark. Now I am thinking to buy 20 as well. 🤔 Thanks for sharing!💕

I find that Chanel's neutral B undertone leans rather yellow/warm in me. I have a neutral undertone but have better foundation matches in some other brands, ie Prada L15 is perfect for me. A lot of brands tend to lean warm with their foundations even though they're labelled as neutral. I actually think it's hard to find a true neutral but some brands are getting better and some newer brands are surpassing the older brands with their shade/ undertone ranges. ❤

I love Chanel foundation, but I get frustrated with selecting the correct shade. It isn’t that I cannot figure out which I am (BR 22), but it is because it is only available in a couple of formulations. I wonder why? I’ve tried others more readily available, but BR 20 looks muddy and BR12 is too light. I like BR 12 for concealer,but go with BR02 because my under eye circles are very dark, plus I have bags (ugh, turning the big 6-0 next year). What’s a girl to do to get the next best shade when the correct shade is unavailable? I want to use the Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint for summer, but cannot get the shade right. It is annoying when the same shades are not consistently available across the foundations, I don't know why they do that. For the Water Fresh Tint, they tend to all have a neutral undertone, nothing cool like the shades you mentioned. ❤❤❤

They have changed their foundations and I wish the help at Chanel counters were better trained. It happened twenty years ago and now it's happening again where I will have to go to Chanel in NY to get the right shade. They told me to use Dior. I am fair and home I came with a medium dark shade. I'm taking it back, I'll micromanage to select the proper Chanel shade.

Is me again. I never buy foundation unless they give me a small sample to take home. I am a painter and that though me a lot and undertones. In Chanel I am a B R 12. This is so sad because we know LV canvas gets thinner over time but Goyard’s canvas is literally paper thin. Most of their bags are leather lined but for me a big reason to own a coated canvas luxrul bag is that it is lightweight and indestructible
