Too many singers today believe that they need to use songs to show off their voices, instead, beating a song into submission to "make it their own". In my opinion, that rarely works. Whitney Houston succeeded with "I Will Always Love You", according to the song's writer, Dolly Parton. I am sure I would prefer to hear Allison sing that song in her style over either Dolly's or Whitney's versions.

Yes, Steve, that was the awful legacy of American Idol and The Voice. Luckily the subsequent generations have smartly ditched that and have embraced taste and nuance, as Allison and others have.

I can't say enough good things about the spare way in which you approach recording. You don't overdo anything, and the music keeps its innocence and air of realness as a result. The sentiment of the song itself brings to mind a lot of Leonard Cohen stuff, like "Sisters of Mercy" or "Tonight Will Be Fine". You should focus more energy on writing. I'd buy an album of your originals in a heartbeat.
