If you're listening to this with your CPU heatsink still attached then you're doing it wrong.
@benjib26912 жыл бұрын
That Tom's Hardware video, a classic at this point. I've read somewhere that the test wasn't really fair for the two AMD systems. Can't remember why though.
@aprilkolwey47792 жыл бұрын
@@benjib2691 There were at least three reasons: 1. The second AMD chip (but not the first one) has an on-die temperature sensor. It _should_ have been able to shut down on its own, but I think back in those days that signal went through the motherboard on the AMD side and so it may have been possible to disable it. I don't think the CPU had any method to enforce it on its own until the Athlon 64. 2. Most, if not all, socket A boards had socket temperature sensors. These can't react fast enough to save you if the heatsink falls off, but in a more realistic scenario involving a failed fan, it should shut down before damage occurs if it's configured properly. 3. The temperature readings are complete garbage - on the Intel CPUs they were trying to measure the temperature of a shiny surface using an IR thermometer, which doesn't work properly (it acts as a mirror) and ends up more or less measuring the temperature of whatever's behind it (ceiling, thermometer, whatever). The AMD ones had thermal paste on them, which made them not as shiny and readable with that thermometer, although still probably not very accurately.

One of my all time classic Amiga tunes - I remember playing the cassette of the Team 7 Works over and over and listening to my walkman - when this was re-released on the Amiga Works album, it was like falling in love again with all those tunes from my younger years!

THE Afrotechmods? What the F....I'm having a... double fanboy moment here! I'm 43, but even now I still love these tunes that remind me of my early teenage Amiga-playing days. I was a big fan of Team 17 stuff in general, but Allister's music was fantastic. It's still good NOW. Project X and Alien Breed were two particular faves of mine. :) I was in the pub only the other week and we were talking Amiga games 'back in the day'. When Project X was mentioned everybody said "Man, the music was great on that!" I think it even formed the basis for us getting into a lot of later 'house' type stuff etc... :) But then I see this comment from Afrotechmods?? The same guy whose electronic videos I love. :) Among other things I teach car and motorcycle mechanics in colleges, and when I have to teach a lot of introductory electronics and electrical theory I frequently direct my learners to Afrotechmods' superb vids. (Few can get the content to conciseness ratio this spot-on, let alone do informative AND funny at the same time) :) The internet facilitates some interesting 'connections' at times, Six degrees of Kevin Bacon and all that, but even so. Seeing a guy whose videos I've really enjoyed (and benefited from) as a middle aged teacher commenting on something so iconic from my youth - it's like my 14 year old self and my 43 year old self saying hi to each other. :) Good luck in all your future endeavours lads :)
