My Daddy used to sing this song to me as a boy. I'll never forget riding with him in his 1969 Chevelle. I remember one time when I was maybe 7 years old that he came blazing into the drive way and ran into the house, the police came flying by with sirens blaring and they skidded to a stop outside the house a few minutes later. I remember them laying a hand on the hood to feel it's heat then knowing who had ran them ragged down Highway 99 out of Yuba City Ca. All they ever saw were his tail lights. It was the early 80's and that car would do 150 mph. RIP Daddy, I love you.

He did, In fact the police didn't arrest him at that time. They knew the car was his, but had no proof because they never got close enough to get a license plate number while they were chasing him. Later on they caught him out at the grocery store, parked and wrote a bunch of B.S. tickets for; exhaust to low to the ground, headlights maladjustment due to the cars "raked" stance, to loud for the street due to modified muffler, etc. etc. It was over $ 400 in fix it tickets which was alot of money back then. Dad knew a CHP officer he went to school with who just signed them off. Dad died in 2009, of cancer.

I saw a guy in the bank in Macon. Long hair beard, treble clef earrings and he was moving his fingers like he was playing an instrument. I asked hey, you a musician. He turned and said in a Clint Eastwood voice yeah. I said keyboards? He said yeah and guitar and told me a quick story about this band and the old days. He was a pretty kool cat too.

Traveling the country, in a van headed nowhere/everywhere. Late at night. Allman Brothers mix tape comes on and we decide to just keeping driving till it ends. It ends. Very late. Very lost. Very tired. Pull over and just go to sleep on the side of the road. Wake up in the morning, open the doors, and we are surrounded by the most amazing, bright orange dunes. The sun is rising behind them. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BROUGHT US TO THE BADLANDS. Very cool.
