The "fridges" Mark is talking about is the auxiliary power unit (APU). It's used to power the tank without running the main engine. That saves fuel while allowing the powered systems in the tank to be used.

It was definitely insane how much my A10s influenced the game. 4/4 arrival, horrible dice rolling for AA, and auto penetrating expensive T80s. I threw away the Abrams for sure, probably should have waited one more turn with them, but I guess it did force Jon to take care of them and buy some time for other assets to arrive. Really want to get some of my British painted and on the table, although I know Jon will want to try out his new W Germans.

@@Edward-Plantagenet we did have a game of Brits vs Polish (a British rifle company supported by Challengers), but unfortunately there were issues with the footage/editing and the material was lost. @@markfrancis8978 That's great, I like your TY games a lot. I've steered clear of TY before simply because of the horde / car park issues with Soviets but I really do like the game and the models, the helos add a really interesting dimension. The T80 Shock though does provide an option to de-clutter the Soviet side of the table and even to run M1A1s, Leo 2A5s (but they are still pushing it at 17 points!) and Challengers. Straight M1s, even IPM, are cutting it a bit fine I think against T80s, even if the latter are only ROF 1/1. Did ponder doing West Germans or even Brits but opted for US (Desert Storm era) simply for the variety and flexibility.

Very nice batrep as usual, great to see Mark back again. Just one error I noticed, the A10s should not have been getting concealment from that building. It's only if the gophers/shilkas were within 4 inches of the building shooting over it at the aircraft
@onomatopoeia75053 жыл бұрын
Aircraft and concealment is indeed always a tricky thing! Easy when the AA unit is in a forest, not so when not.
@Anvilarm073 жыл бұрын
Correct on the Shilkas. But the Gophers are in the woods which give the A/c cover.

Great bat-rep, good use of assets by Mark. I haven't played TY yet (even though I have a British and Soviet force) so didn't appreciate the caution from Jon on his t80s using the AA umbrella.... this I did appreciate later in the game!
@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, perhaps I should have just thrown caution to the wind and dropped a smoke screen on turn one or two and bum rushed up the right. could have saved me from the Copperheads but the M1 Ambush might have been more effective.
@philiphale27853 жыл бұрын
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall possibly, would have been more classical Soviet (well, except smoke) but you did have fewer hulls so caution was probably the better approach.

Just starting TY but IIRC you'd only roll for potential front armour hits on the turrets of those M1s (shot at from the side) if the turret is facing what is firing at it? If the tank is shot at from the side and the turret is still facing forward would it not be be side shots only? I thought that was the whole (only) point of rotating the turret?
@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure where in the battle report you are referring to but that is correct. You only need to roll to hit the turret/hull if the Front/side side is presented to the target.
@Edward-Plantagenet Жыл бұрын
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall It was at 38:19 you said the middle guy has a 50/50 chance of hull / turret. I maybe misunderstood what you were doing or why but I couldn't fathom why there was any question of a turret hit at all since the turret and front of the tank was facing forward?

What's with all the tank clumps ? doesn't seem realistic , vehicles riving around bumper to bumper - no tactical awareness, no infantry support ? It's a game , not war simulation, seems like it would not simulate what ww3 would look like ?
@nickkobe97293 жыл бұрын
These rules make no sense! First, You can shoot thru destroyed vehicles. Second, you can place vehicles within very close proximity to each other. Third, you can close to within a few yards of another tank and miss the target. Fourth, you can swoop out a hit command vehicle for a non-command vehicle and applied the hit t that vehicle. Fifth, you have tank crews bailing out of their undamaged tanks and then the crew may or may not remount their tank. Sixth, the unit commander may issue a bailed out crew an order to remount. What does the commander do? Yell at them? Seventh, hidden units in woods can be seen even if they do not fire: No camouflage? Seventh, US ground platoons have at least 2 teams with Javelin or Cart-G anti-tank weapons and additional anti-tank weapons in the APCs. Eighth, tanks cannot (exceptions) in the close proximity they are in these games move from a front on position to a side attack position. The defender could quickly turn to meet the threat. These are just a few of the problems of trying to make rules for "accurate historical". Frankly, rules have simply become to complicated, inaccurate, and expensive. What happened to games being games which are designed to be fun. Why fill a table with so any units that there isn't any room for maneuver? These rules neither support the tactics, strategy, nor combined tactics and strategy of battle. They only support an author's bank account through the equation of complexity + volume (pages) + graphics + assumed accuracy = sales.
