You lovely art, in how many gray hours, Caught as I was in life’s wild circle, Have you ignited my heart to the warmth of love, And led me to a better world! Often a sigh is released from your harp, A sweet sacred chord to reveal Better times in heaven, Lovely art, I thank you for it!

Thank you for the beautiful version of one of my favorite songs. My mother tongue is German - although the German could be improved a little, I was able to indulge in the feeling. The song was perfectly recognized in the statement and implemented very sensitively. I watched this video several times and had to cry every time. The voices are enchanting and deeply touching. I like the interaction with the conductor. Both merge with each other and result in matching the text. Thank you very much for the wonderful moments created by you. At primary school nearly 60 years ago, we sang the words:- Oh noble art, in many hours of sadness When somber shadows fall or overwhelm Can now our hearts in loving joy and gladness Restore and bear into another realm And bear into another realm.

Gorgeous! This piece, in its original form, is the ultimate classic Lieder, a song for solo male tenor. Its greatest exponent in modern times is generally considered to be Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. It was both innovative and inspired to have transcribed it for a ladies’ choir. In this choral rendition, the aching melancholy and loneliness of the original solo seem softened and exalted into a transcendent anthem of hope and faith in a “better world”. In this version, it sounds more like something written by the optimistic Brahms than the world-weary Schubert. This choral version should become a classic in its own right.

Very nice. But why change the most beautiful part of the chord sequence? Right after the climax, when the original piece rises up from 1st to 6th degree to then use a #4 degree to land the I64 before the cadence..... they changed that for a dominant 4th degree... or maybe the pianist just didn't reed the accidental... twice...

Many versions exist in many keys - lieder are often transposed to fit the range of the singer, the expectation from Schubert’s own time when songs were originally published.

@Theodore Shulman , you are indeed a small minded and a smaller hearted pedant! You criticize these wonderful singers who are not German, but sing wonderfully and clearly nonetheless, and you yourself do not even use the proper word for the diacritic mark with correct grammar. Your comparison to 'Pravda,' is spurious. They are two different alphabets, so naturally there would be a transliteration from one to the other. As you well know, when using a foreign word you should either italicize it, or use quotation marks. The irony of your attacking their diction because your pretentious ears were assaulted is stunning. Furthermore, you are not a native German speaker, and I suspect not a professional musician, so you really do not know how the text should be pronounced other than a rudimentary understanding of German obtained during your callow youth. Crawl back into your small shell of pedantry and leave these young musicians alone! Regards from Weimar, Germany, the home of Goethe, Schiller, Liszt and Straus!

Very pretty. But why don’t they respect the umlauts ??? It's not that difficult to sing "süsse". It's just about the same vowel as the "u" in French.
@dulcamarabuffo2 жыл бұрын
The same reason why you take a German word and do not respect the correct declension of the accusative plural that is required. They are not German but they sing wonderfully. You would do well not to be such a pedant, especially when in your criticism of their German belies your ignorance of German.
@ColonelFredPuntridge2 жыл бұрын
@@dulcamarabuffo Excuse me! The word "umlaut", although it is borrowed from German, is an English word now (as well as a German one), so, when I am writing in English, I use English grammar to pluralize it. If I were writing about umlauts in German, THEN I'd use the German accusative plural. Just as, when we discuss, in English writing or conversation, the newspaper "Pravda", we write it in English; we don't write something like "The official newspaper sanctioned by the government in the USSR was Правда". We write "the official newspaper sanctioned by the government in the USSR was Pravda". These singers have done a lot of work. It's not that hard to learn to sing the vowels correctly. With one or two more hours of rehearsal, they'd be able to sing this song without causing listeners who speak German to cringe. Wouldn't that be something?

As a German speaker, it was a bit distracting, especially since it was not only the umlauts, but also e.g. "wilder" which should be pronounces as "weelder", "umstrickt" with a "sh" or "Seufzer" with an "oi". I still love the performance though.
