Is this powerstation with a 100w or 120w solar panel able to provide enough power for a Compressor cooling box, some lights, mobile phones and a MacBook Pro (maybe some drone batteries and ideally an ebike battery)? Or would you rather recommend to build a solar system with 2x100w solar panels, Victron charge controller and a 120ah solar battery? I am just curious as with the 2x100w solar panels fixed to the roof of our camper we would have to stand in the sun all day which makes it really hot inside and with a powerstation and a mobile solar panel we could park in shadow and put the panel in the sun. Do you think thats working or what are each up and downsides? Thanks a lot in advance!
@DADvinci3 жыл бұрын
@JimyApe Good day and thanks for your question. This unit has been slightly revised since my review and it now comes with 606Wh, but the manufacturer has mentioned that other improvements have been made (including charging). The best I've got out of 200W worth of panels is about 100W (connected in parallel). This is due to the voltage limit on the Anderson port (30V), so you can't connect 2x100W panels in series as the voltage goes above the limit. Connecting the panels in parallel keeps the voltage in range and adds the current (Amps) together. So, although it increases the current to about 10A (for the two panels), the charging limit is maxed out at 5A, so you don't get the advantage of up to 200W of charging capability. It should be able run and charge all the devices you've listed as long as individually or combined (at once), they don't exceed the 500W continuous output from the AC inverter or 10A from the cigarette lighter output and 5A per DC output port. Being able to use the unit whilst charging from solar will help slow down the battery usage on sunny days, as if you're getting say 100W in and using less it should maintain the battery charge. If you did go the component system (battery, charge controller, etc) you usually get more capacity for the price as you're not paying for the convenience an all-in-one system offers. Do you have an idea of the amount of power you're likely to need and whether it will be AC or 12V DC? Even if you did go the component route, you could still use portable panels with the right connectors. Please can you let me know? All the best, Adrian

@@DADvinci as of right now, we are only planning on 12V DC as all our devices are able to load with USB or an car lighter. So we would have the cooling box for 24/7, load two iPhone X every day, one MacBook Pro once or twice per day and some times drone batteries or other small stuff that runs in USB, like led lights, mixer some seconds. And then there is the question how to store a real solar component system in winter plus the weight. A 120ah agm battery weighs around 50kg whereas the one in your video only weighs 5kg. And being flexible is pretty important to me, I just have to be sure that cooling box and my laptop are working. I read in a Amazon review that the cooling box alone was able to run 3 days on the allpowers battery before being empty. So if I am loading my MacBook and two iPhones once per day and maybe use some lights, I should be still able to use it for 2 days, no? And if I have good sun it works even better. But how many days without sun could I have power when using the component system with a 120ah agm battery?
@DADvinci3 жыл бұрын
@JimyApe Thank you for the extra info👍. Could you charge from your camper 12V when solar isn't available (if travelling around)? I'm trying to figure out how you could top-up to keep going. Have you seen the LiFePO4 case battery videos on the channel? They have been brilliant, in their own right and as part of the MPP Solar Inverter system. Unfortunately, the manufacturer put up the price shortly after the most recent video, so I'm looking for alternative options that would be significantly lighter than an AGM. I've got another LiFePO4 battery on the way from China as I type this and that's under £300 for 100Ah (like my current case batteries). I've attached a solar charge controller to my case battery (video to come) so it's still portable and can be charged from solar and a 12V cigarette lighter outlet (with a 12V to 24V charger). Do you know how much the MacBook Pro typically uses in a day, as I don't have one so couldn't guess at daily consumption? Here are the videos featuring the case batteries if you fancy a look. @@DADvinci Well I think I would be fine with paying more and having a portable power station. As I still don’t know what to do with the agm when not traveling and we are mostly traveling for 2-3 weeks and that 2-3x per year. The MacBook uses a 60W 12V charger and needs to be charged for about 2 hours sometimes twice per day. On the other hand I could make some usb or lighter sockets into the closets with a component system. As I am not able to do that with the power station, right? Or is it possible to use one DC port and manually cable 2-3 usb 12v or 12v lighter sockets on one cable and just plug it in the powerstation when traveling? I am really pleased by the powerstation idea, just not sure if we can make enough power with 100W solar panel 😅 I can use a 12v lighter socket to load the station while driving tho if you mean that would help us. As mentioned we are driving a 30 year old Volkswagen T3 Transporter and I am a bit scared if it will empty our battery? But I am not experienced enough with car electricity, surely the socket is kinda secured to not exhaust the battery, right? And if the weather really is against us, we still can go in a campsite to reload from time to time.

@Mr Everybody There's always a risk going for the first releases of backed products as they don't iron out all the issues upfront. This might be one of those types of issues. @chairman meow Good day and thanks for your question. Unfortunately, no. The problem with microwave ratings is that although they quote a figure of say 800W, this is the output (cooking power). The input power (at the plug) is usually much higher. For example, I've got a Russell Hobbs that has a rated output of 750-800W, but the input power required at the socket is between 1200-1250W meaning that even the larger solar generators (like my EB150 with its 1000W continuous rated inverter) can't run it. I would like to run a 450 watt heater in my campervan. I previously ran it from an inverter but now I have a CTEK battery charger and the battery cannot run the heater directly.
@DADvinci4 жыл бұрын
@Turbo Jones Good day and thanks for your comment. A couple of questions if I may. How long would you want to run the heater for? How would you typically charge the battery (solar generator)? As you're probably aware, electric heaters eat battery power and at 450W, even this 666Wh (with its 500W continuous AC inverter) would roughly give 70-80mins run-time per full charge. You can use this unit whilst charging though. It charges at approx. 120W from two 12V cigarette lighter sockets simultaneously as shown in our latest video if you'd like to watch > kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3PXlZeFpKp0q6c . Have you considered any other heating options for your campervan? The reason I ask is that I've recently got one of these > www.bewarmer.co.uk/footbuddy-all-in-one-heated-foot-mat/ which I'm testing at the moment. It's still early days, but I'm impressed with it so far. They also do larger versions specifically for rugs > www.bewarmer.co.uk/rugbuddy-under-rug-heating/. I've been working from home since March, so needed to find better ways to keep heating costs down during Winter and this gives me a little patch of underfloor heating where I need it (dining table, now my workplace). I’m also using this with my solar generators and it runs fine, effectively costing me nothing to run providing the sun has turned up to charge them. Mine runs at around 80W, so significantly less than a lower powered fan heater or oil filled radiator. I’m not sure it’s the complete answer to heating a campervan, but the larger ‘rug’ versions might do the trick from what I’ve read whilst requiring less energy to run (free from solar). Please let me know what you need and I'll assist where I can. All the best, Adrian

I bought the smaller 372 watt version which is perfect my needs and works great but there is a big design fault. Both the front mains plug socket front cases pull out attached to your plugs !!!! The lugs that are designed are no where near strong enough, you will hear a load click when you push a plug in, almost sounds like something has snapped and broken off but it hasn’t, the socket faces have clicked free off the mounting inside the unit and are now on your plug !!! Now you have to unscrew the unit and push them back into place but they will keep coming off every time you pull a plug out. All I have done is put a couple of bits of black electrical tape over part of the outside around the plug socket faces, this does stop them from coming off but really all powers should have sorted such a small minor but massively annoying basic problem out before releasing thier products. Does this new 666 have the same known issues as the socket faces are the same ?????

I'm currently providing the info that's in the manual (under 'Charging from Wall Socket') where it specifies one or the other which was also the case for the 372Wh. I'm going to raise this with the manufacturer as I want to give out the right advice going forward so that viewers don't face issues if they need to call on their warranty in future. I'll also include this in my next update video. May I ask which PD charger you're using (wattage)? In addition, what 'watts in' are displayed when charging just using the USB-C PD port? My testing has turned up some interesting results in terms of displayed values versus actual power going in. The other thing that happened last night was that I broke one of the AC outlets, similar to some viewers who had the revised version of the 372Wh. I'm a bit clumsy sometimes (as mentioned in other videos), but the right-hand cover came off and now the back part of the socket is loose in the unit (socket unusable currently). I suggest being careful how you plug in and remove, ensure the plug is straight on both counts as this might have caused my issue. It looks like the plug socket has catches that are glued in place and it could be that there's not enough glue in my case. I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Adrian

@DADvinci3 жыл бұрын
@Magengegend Good day and thanks for your question. Regulated outputs usually remain at or around the same voltage, regardless of battery charge level. Due to the way the battery pack is configured in the 666, it's around 13.2V fully charged and drops to around 12V near empty from the cigarette lighter output (so not regulated). It works with my new Alpicool C15 and I'm using one of the DC outputs on the 666 which is good for around 5A x 12V = 60W (and is regulated, like on the 372). The Alpicool also has a voltage range you can choose from, so it looks like it will work even when it goes under 12V. I can't say how long it will last as yet, but with the smaller Wh units I've tested so far last overnight in a warm room (in fridge mode). I hope this helps. Please shout if you need anything else. @stephen smith Good day Stephen and thanks for your comment. The unit I have is the 666Wh and precedes the 606Wh. The manufacturer confirmed that the newer 606 unit is essentially the same but with a slightly smaller capacity. I believe this is due to the cost of batteries as this is what they confirmed for their popular 372Wh, which now has a capacity of 288Wh. The AC inverter remains the same (from the specs and their confirmation). I hope this helps. Please shout if you have any questions. All the best, Adrian

Is the inverter noisy? How long for the fan to start to ramp up? Is it able to handle spikey electric loads such as audio amplifiers (say 300W continuous but potentially able to spike much higher)? BTW thanks for your great reviews, super helpful!
@DADvinci4 жыл бұрын
@Giulio Jiang Happy New Year Giulio! Thank you so much for your kind feedback😊 The cooling fan is quite noisy and does activate on a regular basis when you increase the inverter load. It stays on when pulling higher loads (500W continuous limit) until it has cooled back down again. When I'm powering my TVs (streaming films usually), I run an extension cable from another room so it doesn't intrude on the sound when the fan kicks in. It's difficult to say how it would react with different types of equipment, but I usually just plug in and as long as it doesn't pull over the inverter continuous limit for too long it keeps running. I hope this helps? Please let me know if you need anything else. All the best, Adrian

@Tricia Hastings Good day Tricia! Thanks very much for your kind feedback, much appreciated👍😊. The Monster X is on sale in the UK and as long as you get the 220V AC version, will be fine for Ireland too. I've not tested one yet, although it's something I'd like to get my hands on to review (many questions in this regard). It's difficult to recommend something directly without testing it for myself, but going by the Amazon reviews for the UK version it seems to be performing as customers wanted. The other one to consider is the POWEROAK Portable Power Station AC200P 2000W 2000Wh. Currently on a deal as well, comes with 2000Wh (more storage capacity than the 1500Wh on the ALLPOWERS) and longer lasting battery cells (LiFePO4). Again, I've not tested this one but I've had the PowerOak EB150 for over a year (Playlist here if you wanted a look > bit.ly/3msZlWT) and it has worked flawlessly all that time. You can stick with the same brand for solar panels, but depends on how much you want to spend and how much you wish to rely on solar alone (they can be expensive). I hope this helps. @TheEAFOS @Mr Everybody I'm hoping to get a response back from John. He might have been referencing the inverter rating which is 500W continuous, or indeed as you say the energy storage at 80% which would be 666Wh @ 80% = 532Wh. Cheers, Adrian

@Gordon Kerr Good day Gordon and thanks for your question. I bought one of these which is 90W PD capable > amzn.to/3aeoDVz (affiliate link), but it still only charges at 60W on my 666Wh. I'm working on an update video at the moment which I hope to get out before Christmas. In that video I cover the dual charging method (which I've now confirmed with the manufacturer is fine to do), as in you can charge from both the DC input and the USB-C PD input at the same time. This boosts the charging rate way above 100W (cutting the charging time a fair bit). I hope this helps? Please shout if you need anything else in the meantime. All the best, Adrian
@Gordonafloat4 жыл бұрын
@@DADvinci Thanks for the quick reply. Wondering if the dual charging method to achieve 100w also works for the smaller 372Wh Power Station? Also keen to know the maximum amount of solar panels worth purchasing for the 666Wh. i.e. If it can only handle the same solar imput as the smaller unit there would be little point in buying bigger than a 100w panel. I am weighing up which unit to go for early next year and I only see a point in getting the bigger unit if it's possible to charge the bigger battery just as quickly, otherwise it might make more sense to go with two of the smaller 372Wh units. Thanks again.
@DADvinci4 жыл бұрын
@Gordon Kerr Hi Gordon! The dual charging method doesn't work on my 372Wh, so you can expect around the 60W mark for the quickest charging. I get this from solar on a good day (100W rigid panel) or from a 60W USB-C PD charger. I've not had the best weather to really test the full capability of the Anderson port on the 666Wh as yet, but I was seeing mid 80s from 120W folding panel about 5-6 weeks ago. I should start to get a better idea going into Spring next year. Did you need the larger inverter that the 666Wh offers? Cheers, Adrian

@@DADvinci That's useful information. I am a keen photographer so have batteries to charge in addition to all the usual modern tech when I go solo car camping. I normally pay for electric hook-up but that is not always available at peak holiday times so the ability to go off grid is what I am after now. I am thinking of getting gas heaters and stoves and a solar power generator. The ability to quick charge from ac would be useful as on cloudy days it may be possible to take a long lunch somewhere and put 200wh's of power in from ac which leans me to the 666WH. But owning two 372Wh's might be more versatile. If I go down the 372Wh route I am considering an 80 watt folding solar panel such as:- www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0895DR5T2/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=AH2H36OM186GX&psc=1. @Gordon Kerr Good evening Gordon. You've got some good combinations available for what you need. I've also been testing the PowerOak for a few months and that was the 120W panel I was referring to in my last reply. It's nicely constructed, feels sturdy enough and I'm getting 50-60W on the 666Wh with the weakest sun of the year (UK south) so not bad at all. I've got the PowerOak EB150 as well and I'm very impressed with it so far. I'll be doing a video on the solar panel in the New Year, so hopefully that will help as well. I really like the fact it has MC4 connectors too so I can add it to other panels in series for more overall wattage. I think I've also finally found a kettle to work with the 666Wh, which is always a problem with solar generators that have smaller inverters (I might do a short format video for that one soon). Please shout if you need anything else. All the best, Adrian
