August planting seems crazy because it feels hot and last month was super hot but the temps are coming down and the sun is shifting. This month is the month to redeem any losses you didn't get to enjoy from your spring garden. August is the planting month of opportunity because you can plant all the things this month and have a rich bounty around the holidays!

I’m in Yuma and I really needed this today. I actually already have about fifteen of each:squash, pumpkins, pepper, cucumber, bean seedlings started because I’m so determined to have something grow this years!!! But I was worried I was too late. Didn’t know I needed to start the brassicas though. This last year was really hard. My whole corn crop seeded and scattered before the silks even formed! Such a bummer. But I’m trying again. Thanks for the encouragement 💗

Good call on the squash plan. I saw the first squash bugs on my zucchini in the second week of July and yanked them all out. Just started some new yellow squash seeds last week (I have tons of zucchini in the freezer).

In the trellis behind me is luffa. My grapes are in full sun and only get flood irrigation every two weeks....

I did the same thing this year as far as the squash bugs. The one thing that seemed to last the longest was the rampicante zucchini. I didn’t like the taste much though. I did start some new ones and planted them out last week, and 1” of rain yesterday morning! It’s missed us all season until now!

Maybe! It's very humid here, the temps is like now about 102, 102 isn't so bad, but when you layer it with 30% or more humidity. 😪

We have a relatively new house.. 6-7 years old.. and the rains this year brought a major ceiling leak!!!! So of course all roofing/ leak fixers are very busy... hope it's minor but dreading the cost. So I related to that love of the rains and monsoons vs the fear of damage from roof leaks and fallen trees. I really just took a break in garden.. ( amazing what did survive without my touch.. am I really needed at all?) BUT when heat goes cooler I'll get in there again. 😎 off to summerwinds!

When would you recommend the actual transplanting of the seedlings/plants into the garden? Gardening in Phoenix, Az. So if I have tomato seedlings, do we have to wait until a specific date to transplant in? I would hate to put them in ground too soon and have them fry up in the sun.
@AllPurposeMom

Now is really the time, best if you have some shade cloth over them. I get how it feels scary but the thing w summer gardening isn't just the sun it's the ambient temperatures, like I mentioned in this video by mid August the temperatures are going to be on the decline as the sun shifts more to the south.
@vanessaperez8260

Oh that’s so exciting! I will transplant them in with some sun protection. Thank you for your response. We got some great rain yesterday.😃
