One good thing to add with this bucket is a water filter set that you can operate with a hand pump... that way you can have clean water to actually cook the food with, since some people may not have space to actually store water long term. So, being able to filter water from most sources would be convenient. Other things, which are a bit more obvious is keeping a portable propane stove, and several cans of propane around.

You can make it for a week with no electricity, especially if when they started giving the hurricane watches, you popped a some seeds in the sprouter and some in a microgreen planter for some freshness. These are all freeze dried. The little packets are most likely silica which can absorb some moisture if it gets into the packages. Water will greatly diminish the shelf life of dried products so the packet is there to prevent that. One thing to remember is you'll need some drinkable water to make all these dishes and a heat source. So plan accordingly. These go great to compliment canned goods which do not necessarily need to be cooked as they're heat treated in the canning process.

I'm from Buffalo and I've considered how long we could last in the house without groceries. There's always at least a week's worth of good food in our basement, maybe 2 with just the stuff we buy in bulk to save on cost (not for survivalist reasons). For protein we keep Spam for things like Spam Musubi, but it of course is a survivalist food. Our freezer is stocked as well, and I guess in a snowstorm even if we lost power it wouldn't be that hard to keep frozen food frozen. Funnily enough during our last big storm that made headlines, the corner grocer on my block stayed open since the family who runs it live upstairs, so we only ever ran out of fresh produce (they obviously couldn't get any deliveries in).

This bucket is (was?) on sale at Costco for $65 and it’s a great value. However, it’s important to recognize these buckets are not fully self contained. There is no meat products and very little other protein in these meals. A better option, though a little more expensive, is the Mountain House kits on Amazon. Either one is better than not having any emergency food storage, but the Ready Wise kits from Costco are minimally sufficient. By the way, the powdered milk really isn’t intended to be consumed from a glass, unless that’s your thing. It’s a way of adding protein to other dishes and adding a creamy texture….or cereal. Edited for a typo.

I always have a stock pile of grains and beans. Not exciting, but works in a pinch. Also for $80 you can get much more than 150 servings.
@animejanai465718 күн бұрын
Just get a container with a bug resistance lid. Put into the container one 25 pound bag of white rice AND one 20/25 pound bag of pinto beans. That provides not only carbohydrates, but the two paired together provide a balanced protein profile to the point where meat is not needed. Occasionally, Costco may sell the SOna Masoori rice that comes in 20 pound vacuum sealed packages. For storage, that is the best approach as it could last 100 years or more that way because without air, there will be no weevils or other pests. It also provides an immediate easy inspection because as long as you see the vacuum is maintained, the food is secure.

Add some freeze dried cooked meats and veg to the container. Use the dessicant packs to keep moisture out, and vacuum seal mylar bags. During an emergency, you probably want to ration the food and not eat three meals a day and a lot of times those type of meals are packed with higher calorie, so you don't need three large meals or three meals. A lot of Americans are well fed so we could actually go a couple days without food. Some people like myself that are larger could go much longer without food, but that's why some people say you need tons of those and in reality you don't. You may want to only eat one meal a day to preserve your food
19 күн бұрын
During an emergency there are several scenarios that could be what you are doing on a short term and long term.. You might find yourself to be very active and burning thousands of calories a day in which case you might go a few days without eating much but in the long run you will have to eat a lot or get sick.. The flip side is you are hunkered down somewhere and doing nothing so boredom will induce you to eat which is very bad.. For these prepackaged kits I would suggest having a box of quart sized freezer storage bags handy if you don't have several people to feed so you can place the excess cooked food into to eat later.. We have fast meals and ones that need time to cook, our supply was cobbled together and we rotate through it so as to keep things fresh.. The means to cook the stuff will be needed, Vitamins, TP and a way to store large amounts of water to prep these dry meals is a must have..

$40 for 72 hours of food sounds terrible, I spend like $20 on 3-5 days of food. (But I'm talking about for me vs for a family so maybe it is better)

So many! I think it's practical. Plus easy to keep track since everything is probably dated the same.

I'm cracking up 😂😂😂😂. 4patriots sells these also, i have one tub.

The bucket with water supply and propane stove would be good. Weather, disaster, it would be good to have on hand.

Here’s the big problem with these emergency rations: When the SHTF, where do you get that nice clean water to mix in, or the gas or electricity to cook it? Better store up a whole bunch of water somewhere and have a wood fired cook stove.

Always good to have on hand! :) Great review!

ngl it looks good, that one package is for a whole family = probably a day for someone alone definitely useful in case of emergency

It's you! I remember you from the video of the 3 in 1 breakfast machine that you were in with that other lady! What a nice surprise! We've just started to get Costco here in the U.K. and this looks like an amazing kit. 👍 Love your accent! 😊

This Emergency food bucket would be ideal for campers or hikers, especially those who hike in the wilderness with a tent.
@gotafarmyet46912 ай бұрын
the problem with most of these is the serving size. Few people will have what is needed to cook that large package. they next problem will be storing anything that is not eaten. Individual serving sizes that can be heated quickly is still the best option. That is the type of hiking packed food that also has that long shelf life like mountain house.

@@gotafarmyet4691 I wasnt thinking that. but perhaps at someones camp.

I just got one a few days ago for $63.99 (Southwest MO). (The day before the election, lol.) I'm glad it's all at least relatively tasty, if not delicious. Loved the 2nd opinion!

Wow these are big portions. Some 80-100,- seem to be a fair price. You can also take them with you on camping or whatever. The only problem would be to get fresh water in a case of an emergency.

when the SHTF, water might be the hardest commodity to come by...

Good news then, cause if you can't find water, starving isn't going to be much of an issue for you.

Just so anyone that preps knows, one bucket requires 10 gallons of water to rehydrate all the contents

Readywise is terrible misleading. It says 150 serving but then you find out one serving is 200 calories. If you are going to invest into this kinda stuff, go get mountain house, their food actually taste good and has meat in it.
@Verudur2 ай бұрын
200 kcal is enough to keep up for few hours in emergency so i dont see any issue
@tommyk63492 ай бұрын
@@Verudur point is that readywise is misleading the consumer when they say serving. If you went to a restaurant and you bought a cheese burger only to find out it looks more like a one that is made for a toddler, you’d be upset. That’s what you’re getting with readywise. I’ve bought their stuff and made the switch to mountain house.
@Arthemax2 ай бұрын
@@VerudurI'd expect a serving to be enough for one of four meals a day. But 800 calories a day is not gonna be enough for any length of time. Especially an emergency situation where you don't have reliable heating or suboptimal shelter and need to rely on your own metabolism to keep you warm. Over time you want a minimum or 2000-2500 kcal/day, so that's 10-12 daily servings, equating to 12-15 person-days of food in one of these boxes. Far from feeding a family of 4 for a week.

Peak and other bands destroy mountain house and ready wise is easily the shittiest brand out horrible flavor

They also sell Mountain House at times! You should unbox that big Costco collection.
