@AnCapKadse9 күн бұрын

Those are doing incredibly well in that spot. I remember you showed them last year, they've grown a lot since then. I have some growing in pots, but they don't seem to fruit that well in containers, probably due to the irregular watering. I'm planning to plant some of them in the ground soon, so hopefully they will do better in the future 🤞

I have a few in pots and they seem to flower well, but only one is holding a lot of fruit. That variety is called Unique and is self fruiting which is probably the reason why. I did not hand pollinate the others.

It grows outside in Germany? That's crazy. Pollinated by rats? Also crazy. In Australia no issues with pollination - many, many types of Myrtaceae - lots of birds enjoy the flower nectar.

I got some seeds from New Zealand that survived a rougher winter, I'm trying it out in Ohio USA to see if it'll survive in USDA zone 6a. I know someone who grows it in the ground in South Carolina, and I'm hoping that from growing from seed that it will be a little hardier than the potted one that I have that I bring in doors during the winter.

got a couple of seedlings form this place in Heidelberg from last year. They do well, but they ripen very late in Heidelberg so the focus is more on NZ varieties or crosses with bigger fruit which ripe earlyy. I don't know if the plants in Heidelberg are self fertile. Never seen bees on the flowers.
@allthefruit10 күн бұрын
Yes, they often flower quite late here. Earlier flowers might solve the issue

Its interesting that you chose the word chemical to describe the taste / smell that a lot of the fruits have, i actually prefer to think of it as more of a medicinal taste with perhaps a floral background, they are certainly quite a perfumed fruit.

Very interesting. - around 20 years ago, i bought 2 of them and raised them in pots. One of them died from a cold winter quite some years ago. The other is still alive and from the way it looks, its obviously doing fine. But: Flowers, a single one around ten years ago, and, of course no fruits. Any idea how to improve this?
@allthefruit10 күн бұрын
Maybe too much carbonate in the soil or water? Add sth acidic. Or the pot is too small? They seem to like enough fertilizer and water, too
@geotropa104310 күн бұрын
@@allthefruit thanks for your reply! - I had already planned to give it a considerably bigger pot next spring. Also, seeing that it is doing so well on Buntsandstein in Heidelberg, I will make it a more sandy mixture this time. And then, after a while of adaptation, start fertilizing again, maybe using more high-end products from now on.

Most varieties are not realy self fertile, one of the reasons most people don't get fruit, few fruits or bad quality/hollow fruit is because they only plant one plant, or multiple ones grafted with the same variety.
