ALLURE OF THE SEAS - Diverted to Southampton from Barcelona - Cadiz first ever arrival here 20/03/20

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line 'Allure of The Seas' arriving into Southampton City Cruise Terminal today Friday 20th March 2020 she was originally sailing from Barcelona to Cadiz to undergo a planned refurbishment but she was diverted instead to Southampton, she will be staying in port until next Wednesday the 25th March then continue to complete her voyage to Cadiz for her planned 'Royal Amplified' refurbishment to be carried out. This is a first time visit to Southampton, her estimated arrival time at the City Cruise Terminal was for about 11:00am.

Wondering how on earth Southampton is going to cope with the cruise vessels descending on it during the current crisis. We're due to head off on the Queen Vic in May on a Fjords cruise, but fully expect it to be cancelled. Difficult times for everybody. Keep safe and well Steve.

One enormous virus spreader. The crews could not possibly keep a ship this size virus free cleaning everything 24/7 that the guests come into contact with . Then doing a thourough deep clean in berween cruises . Most ships like to be in and out of port at turnround ports like Southampton in 12 hours or less. A monumental task . Will it be another Diamond ,Ruby,and Grand Princess episode waiting to happen . I have sailed on most of the lines operating cruise ships today.

My daughters are supposed to be on that ship in mid August for a Mediterranean cruise but not sure what’s going to happen since the 165 million dollar upgrade to the ship has been suspended and also not sure how it’s going to work out since most of the itineraries are in Italy.

Allure is based from Barcelona in summer 2020. RCI have cancelled refit because of lockdown in Spain plus crash of industry. Refit likely delayed 1 year and if ports open back up, she'll be in Barcelona. If not, who knows. Ray

Anyone ever see something and get really giddy yet have no idea why, Well for some reason thats what the Allure does with me. Since the first time I seen that ship my heart starts to race and I have to either slow my breathing or remember to breath. I have never sailed with Royal either so haven't a clue why

Brenda, it could be because everything about the size and the beauty of it is beyond comprehension, haha, I was very close to the Harmony of the Seas in a Mexico cruise port sometime last year and I also had a different kind of feeling until I moved away and at a distance from it..., it's really something...

It is the 'Anthem of The Seas' that is supposed to be operating from Southampton through the summer as she is taking over from the 'Independence of The Seas' that used to operate from Southampton , so I think you have got a bit confused there my friend. The first sailing date that 'Anthem of The Seas' is booked in for is the 24th April 2020 but as the cruise schedules are all in disarray not sure when everything will get back on track. One more thing is that 'Allure of The Seas' was on her way from Barcelona to Cadiz to undergo a refurb but couldn't dock in Cadiz so instead she was diverted to Southampton and is due to leave here next Wednesday the 25th for Cadiz.

@@SteveCarrett Steve, Allure was due to be in Cadiz but because of the lockdown of Spain, Royal caribbean have cancelled the upgrade, but is likely to return to Barcelona when the port blockade is lifted. She's due to be based out of Barcelona for the summer season. Stay safe, stay healthy. Ray

Finally someone thinking the same as me like hello people dying of COVID-19 all I was reading was doubt it will be running, of course it will not be running. Most just seem peeved they cant carry on cruising which inevitably means spreading COVID. I think all passengers need to be quarantined on any ship coming into Soton. To ensure the locals safety.
