I am a senior at UCLA! I just want you to know what I didn't -- volunteering at a reputable company/organization will do wonders for your application. I know this may be obvious, but it is something I wish I invested more of my time in. If you live in the LA area I highly suggest volunteering at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center (or the Santa Monica location). They accept high school aged applicants into a few of the volunteer programs, and this will seriously build your resume! But of course, if you aren't interested in the health field, volunteering anywhere (preferably somewhere with a reputable "name") is just fine as well. I recommend having one year of consistent volunteer experience, as it shows commitment. Good luck!!!

@Steven Lee. . . haven't you heard of law school or a management program or getting a PHD in English to teach at the college level? I've even heard of an English major who went to med school -- she did the premed curriculum as a minor, one of the benefits of the quarter system. For those who don't want to go to grad school, English would be a good entrée to advertising, communications, and a whole slew of other professions. Don't worry about UCLA English majors; their futures are excellent.
@whosaidthat845 жыл бұрын
@Steven Lee so I'm about to graduate in 2 weeks as an English major. Applied to a Disney internship and still getting my name out there via handshake. Honestly, It's not about the major but what you're willing to do. You really can get into any big company if you've talked to the right people and attended the right events. So it's not only about studying hard sciences.
@whosaidthat845 жыл бұрын
@@robjohnston366 thanks dude. I'm literally going to graduate and not worried at all. Via handshake, there are Soooo many opportunities, you just have to apply and being willing to do the grunt work. For some reason, many hard science majors can't grasp this.

You have to be one of the top 7 high school players in the state of California to be accepted to get a scholarship to play at UCLA. It's not something you can just tryout and join like a middle and high-school school team like it's nothing. If someone plays for UCLA they have most likely been THE best player in their division and have won countless awards and player of the week several times throughout all of the high schools across California. So prepare to work INCREDIBLY hard if you want to do that. Cause in UCLA, the players are so good that 1/5 get drafted into the NBA.

@britneyhuynh18464 жыл бұрын
Hahaha love that! Here is some advice: your sophomore and junior years will matter most (gpa and extracurricular and taking challenging classes), UNLESS you're gonna go to a community college for 2 years and then transfer to UCLA. Being a transfer student reaps a lot of benefits, including your high school grades and activities and SAT will not matter to UCLA because your community college grades, activities, and classes will. You're also saving a lot of money being a transfer student, and you have a higher chance of getting into the college because not a lot of people choose this option of transferring from a community college. If you choose this path, your high school life can be more focused on developing your work ethic, focusing on your passions, and not stressing to the death. Enjoy middle school!
@jhunj054 жыл бұрын
My advice: - try to challenge yourself! ucla wants to see that you tried out difficult courses. - try to get the best scores/grades as possible. it’s ok if it’s not the best but still try as hard as you can to increase your chances of getting in. - take extracurriculars you enjoy in and always remember quality > quantity. try to get leadership positions, win awards or win at competitions, and earn many volunteer hours. ofc don’t stretch yourself out too thin, just do the best you can! - i personally think this is the most important part of your app: your essay. write it from the heart. if your admissions officers love it, then you have a good chance of getting in! these honestly apply for any college, and every college will give you a great education :)

So honestly I feel like my parents kinda want me to go to college in my state (very boringish state) but I want to do more in life than just go to college and get a basic job. I mean I want to own my own business or something along the lines of that. I want to go move out to Florida or California or Georgia because that is just where I feel like I fit better and where I wanna be in life but my dad doesn’t like California and thinks it’s just really stupid there. A lot of people that live in my state stay in my state and don’t leave but I don’t wanna be like everyone and I want to move like I said and I don’t like truly know where I want to go for college but I know that I can do better than some cheap college that is more like a party place than a school. I understand that when you go to college it’s expected to have a lot of parties but also to learn and that’s what I want. I am also pretty smart (I mean like ahead in school (especially in language arts)) and I want to put that to use and go somewhere we’re I would prefer to go whether that means my home state or California! Sorry this is a really long message and I am super late but if anyone has suggestions for good colleges for business please tell me
@allygong4 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s amazing! I definitely relate to that because I felt the same way about college. I’m from California and my parents wanted me to stay in the same state as well! (Juan 8: 44,47) ==================== Dear ones, there are some things that don't seem to make sense. But we are so small, as to the greatness of the One Who Created us. Believe that there is more between Heaven and Earth than we can imagine. And God created us with a specific purpose - to fill and populate the Earth and live on it forever. Look at what Revelation 21: 4 says; that He [God] will wipe away every tear from your eyes, and there will be no more death, no more sadness, no more crying, no more pain. Previous things are gone. ” So, where will there be no more death? Do you think that in the Celestial Domains of God, The Saints "Heavens", there is, or has there ever been, "Death?" To Plague Exclusively Caused by Man's Disobedience? Plague gives Humanity. Have you ever heard of "a Dead Angel?" "And Jehovah God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. Furthermore, Jehovah God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man who So Jehovah God sprouted out of the ground all kinds of trees that look nice and good for food, and also the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of what is good and what is bad. "Jehovah God took the man and established him in the garden of Eden, so that he could cultivate and take care of him. Jehovah God also gave this command to man:“ From every tree in the garden, you can eat at will. But, as for the tree of the knowledge of what is good and what is bad, do not eat it, because the day you eat it, you will surely die. ” (Gen. 2: 7-9; 15-17) "Don't eat it, WHY, the day you eat it, you will surely die." "That is why, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and in this way death spread throughout all mankind, because everyone had sinned ..." (Rom 5:12) "But to the serpent he said to the woman," You will certainly not die. " (Ge 3:4) And now? Who was lying? God or the Serpent?... Jesus said: "You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to fulfill your father's wishes. He was a murderer when he started, and he did not remain in the truth, because in him there is no truth. When he speaks the lie, he is doing what he is told. it is proper, because it is a liar and the father of lies. Whoever is of God listens to the declarations of God. That’s why you don’t listen, because you don’t belong to God. ” (John 8: 44,47) New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (2015 Revision)

I think you need to tell people the truth that studying at UCLA is very intense. Many think UCLA is easier than UC Berkeley and Stanford, but you probably already knew it is not true. I know many who went to UCLA instead of UC Berkeley because they think UCLA is easier.
@whosaidthat845 жыл бұрын
All that depends on the individual professor, but yeah it's going to be intense all around. The quarter system makes things go much faster. Gone are the days of weekly assignments, which means that your midterm and final are way more impacted. You mess those up, you mess yourself up. But it's a fantastic school!

same !!! i’m hoping things will be a little more normal this fall with the covid situation improving. have you decided if you’re going to ucla yet? i’m waiting for berkeley results but definitely leaning heavily towards ucla right now!
@gladlock3 жыл бұрын
@@pleasecatchforusthefoxes I looooved Berkeley but I literally couldn’t stomach the food. It used to be prepared by mentally disabled people (per my friend who attended). This is not an ableist asshole attack, it’s true. My friend transferred to ucla because all he ate was cereal and he couldnt afford to eat out every day. If I had been more worldly and not scared of leaving my comforts for a place full of uncertainties I would have gone to Berkeley. I chose UCLA and I loved it. I wonder where I would be if I had chosen Berkeley?

So I'm an incoming freshman and I got assigned to a classic hall in Hedrick but I can switch to a Hedrick summit plaza style dorm? Which is better? Is it worth it to make the switch?
@sheilaho4287 жыл бұрын
Hi! I just finished my first year at UCLA and lived in Hedrick hall! You can make a switch into Hedrick summit if you would like to. Depending on your needs, a plaza or classic may suit it better. If you don't mind not having AC, and you don't really mind the communal bathrooms, I would say stick with the classic in Hedrick. They're fairly social and you could make friends easier. However, if private time and AC is really important to you, I would think about moving into a plaza. Also, a plaza is more expensive so if money is a big factor, then I would stick with a classic. Sorry for the long paragraph but hope this helps!
