A wonderful video, I was in Stowe back in 1976, drove by the Lodge to see where Maria and the Children lived. Watched them perform several times on tv in the 50s and sang all the songs from The Sound of Music in High School Chorus.

I used to spend a week there every year when I was in my late teens/ early 20's. The last time I was there was 1995. Looks more modern as opposed to the rustic / mountain with all the antiques. I was afraid it would become more commercial since the original Von Trapp family passed. My mom had a timeshare in the phase 2 condos.

That’s awesome you are loving cross country skiing. I started xc skate skiing 11 years ago and it makes me look forward to winter every year when other people are dreading it. If you ever feel up to the challenge there is a xc ski race in Hayward Wisconsin that I have done the last 10 years called the Birkie. Super fun and challenging race that motivates me to ski all I can to be ready for it.

Loved this, especially your thoughts when waking up at 4 a.m.! We're going to the Lodge this summer...have had reservations since 2 winters ago and I kept moving them because of the pandemic. I was there around 20 years ago and loved reading in the library - good to see it's still there! I want to go back in winter some time too.

Growing up in a family of musicians, the score for ‘The Sound of Music’ was always lying somewhere on top of the piano, where it was handy. I remember my late mother taking me (several times) to see the film and I still watch it every so often. Julie Andrews’ gifted voice, was as close to perfection, in as far as it is humanly possible, to be. So, thank you for sharing your trip to this beautiful, and special place which many of us, will never have the opportunity of visiting. A lovely video which brings to my mind, songs like Chaplin’s ‘Smile’, and Blackburn / Seissdorf’s ‘Moonlight in Vermont’,

Try Lake Placid for 🎿 X-C skiing. So many opportunities-Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Training Center, regional groomed trails, wilderness-as well as culture and history. Will always be at the top of my favorite X-C 🎿 memories 😌.
