Thanks for sharing this story! So glad she got out. I was a member of the mainstream church for 27 years when my husband told me god wanted him to have more wives.....fought about that for months and months. He said was going to do it with or without me so....being sealed in the temple and feeling like I should never be divorced....I went along with it and stuck it out for 2.5 years. UGH! When I finally was able to leave I left with a suitcase of clothes. Had to start over at 48 years old.

I'm just starting this video and I was pretty taken aback by Angela's description of her family's racism, but I'm actually glad that she's talking about it so openly. Racism seems to be a crucial part of Mormon fundamentalism that I feel like some white people don't highlight as much as the polygamy/misogyny, which are obviously also terrible! But there are a lot of white people living in America who have extreme racist views and we need to be talking about how those people are alive NOW impacting our society.

My daughter in law as a child, her mother ((Hispanic) needed help in the States . From Catholic background, Mormons helped her so she joined. This was in Michigan. I was shocked bc I’ve heard from other Mormons that most ethnic groups are not that welcome.

@laneneal3510 I think that's because a lot of Mormons lump Hispanic people with Native American people, and Native Americans are supposedly who the Book of Mormon is about. At least, that's my experience when I was growing up in Mormonism in nothern Utah.

As an ex jw, I love to hear the experiences of survivors of other cults. The similarities are eerie. As a jw, I was sexually assaulted by my biological father and an elder. I was horrifically abused. My therapist says my abuse is the worst she's ever heard of. My father was a monster and my sister and I think he may've been a serial killer. My mother made excuses for him and eventually took his side. She never protected us sms now she shuns us because we're no longer JWs. My dad admitted to the elders that he sexually assaulted me but they did nothing. They told me not to inform anyone outside the witnesses and I wasn't allowed to get any therapy or live in a safe home with other family. I was forced to continue to live with my abuser. The abuse escalated exponentially. Police were not informed. No one rescued me. The witnesses hide child sex abuse. It's prolific. Women are forced to remain in abusive marriages. The witnesses kicked me out for smoking, but did not kick my father out for the abuse.

I am sorry for your abuse. I was abuse to the extreme, and I put my dad in prison, because he was doing it to others. It made me feel really bad, but I was not going to let that continue, if I could stop it. I am looking for a friend to study with. It is easy to fool a person, but it is hard to convince a person they are fooled. 99.9% of Bible believing people do not know the only Song the Creator Commanded you to teach your children, and that is really SAD. The Song takes me 11 minutes to sing, no repeating sentences, and tells me this beautiful Story. I Love that Song. The Song is in your KJV Bible. Can you find that Song? That Song Makes me Stronger and Closer to the Creator! That Song Gives me Life and Salvation, and without it I will surely die! Lets just say it is more important to me than my life! If the LDS or any group for that matter, would just read the first five Books of the Bible, you would be FREE! YES! FREE! 1. You would know if a man cut his hair he is not from the Creator. (99% of elders cut their hair. Lev. 19:27 “Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.” Prophet Must do this.) 2. If the church is not teaching you to sing That Beautiful Song The Creator Wrote, then you are in the wrong place, and its time to move on! 3. Would I honor your name if I put a J in front of it? That is intentionally dishonoring your name. Same goes with the Creator and Son “YahShua” “Yah is Salvation”, so simple. So why does the world worship one who comes in his own name “Iesus” opps… forgot to put the “J” in front of it, “Jesus” there, “that is better”! Which one do you think will Save you? The Greek god J+ Iesus,("Saving Sky God" or "Saving Zeus") or the True Name of The Messiah Yahshua! (Yah is Salvation)? “My People die from Lack of Knowledge”. This is the Torah/Laws/First 5 Books I can explain in great depth the "P", "D", "E", and "J" sources of the Bible, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Just like the book of Mormon, the bible has been tampered with. Don't get out of one deception, and into another. This is extremely important to understand the Bible, and what was changed, and who changed it, and for what reason. Jer8:8 and 23:25-27 This knowledge changed my life. I did more research... Unbelievable what I found. Jahovah came from a combination that the jews did, in order to hid the Great Name YHWH. If you look close you can see the “YHWH” but it changed a little. “JHVH” That “J” was a latter invention about 1586. The jews took the vowels out of adonai, and mixed them with the YaHoWaH, and then the “J” was added. Where did the Language of “Hebrew” come from? Jews have killed to keep this a secret. I can explain this in great detail, and something you must understand to understand the "Holy Bible" (The Masoretic Text) I am not talking about what it says, but why it was changed when the jews wrote it. Why were there no Levites in Babylon? All these questions you should know the answer to. The reason you do not know these answers, is because the jews hide these things, their dirty little secrets. Three things you must know to enter Heaven. The Creator's Name YHWH and His Son's Name Yahshua Messiah, the Holy Feasts, and the Creator YHWH Wrote a Song Long Ago, and Commands Everyone to Teach to your Children. I am a Davidic Servant, and urge you to study with me. The deceptions are multilayered, as after you leave the LDS group, because of all the Joseph Smith lies, now you need to learn about what the jews did to you. Yes, the jews are Lairs as well, and hid lots of things from you in the writing of the Bible, just to keep Salvation only for jews. You are doing right now “with the Lord God worship” the exact same thing that got the jews locked up in Babylon for 70 years. The jews are still doing it, and so are you. Real important you understand exactly what they did wrong, so you do not get tricked by the same deception, and another reason they were locked up, so you would know with out a doubt what not to do. Do you want to keep His Feasts, or Sing His Beautiful Song? Then plan to be here at the coming Feast Sukkot begins at sundown on Friday, 29 September 2023 and ends at nightfall on Friday, 6 October 2023 This is something you will do every year with your friends. This is a party in the Keys, and the Creator said, “Deut. 14:26 And you shall bestow that money for whatever your soul lusts after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul desires: and you shall eat there before YHWH your Father and you shall rejoice, you, and your household, ”. We have lots to do here, we are in a wilderness for miles around, with deer that will lay down beside me, alligators, down the street, not were we swim, and bikes, Kayaks, power, water, and WIFI. This is free for now, but only till it is full, I could have about 60 people, after that we will need to figure it out. There is plenty of camping area for a week that is free, and there is like 10 sq miles of that for a thousand people, but not with water, and power. probably wifi though, as we are right in the middle. Did you know the Creator wants to party with you? Every year, and requires you to save money to spend on yourself. Sukkot (Hebrew: סוכות or סֻכּוֹת, sukkōt, or sukkos, Feast of Booths, Feast of Tabernacles) is a Biblical holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei (late September to late October). It is one of the three biblically mandated festivals Shalosh regalim on which Brothers and Sisters were Commanded to make a pilgrimage to the place YHWH Name is Celebrated, and have a Party! Study the Words of YHWH and Yahshua by camp fires. Just have some fun. I am looking for people concerned for the LDS People. I want to bring the LDS group back together, but with lots of corrections as I see lots of Masonic rites in this group. I have studied the Mormon Values enough to believe with the Truth behind the People, I see a really good group forming. Do not “Fall-a-way” Go change the whole Church. You have not lost an eternal family, and yes there are levels in Heaven, and guess what, everyone will be there, as the Lake of fire only lasts 1000 years. No more. Then everyone is woke up at one time. Rev 20 Share this Song, and Names. Everyone in your LDS group will listen to you, because you can open their Bible and Show them, and eventually this will get to Russell Nelson, and you then will have helped Saved the LDS people. If you are an LDS fall-a-way, I urge you to go back, and help your Family and Friends. But by Sept 1 2023 you need to be here. Maybe nothing happens this year, and you can go back for a year, but from now on, be here before September 11 as that is the Feast of Trumpets. I expect the 6th Trumpet to sound very soon, and that is Yellowstone eruption, this event will do all the things that are described in the Bible Rev. 9 Fire Brimstone fall, and 1/3 of mankind die. I also know that Yellowstone cannot be a natural disaster, because the Creator said, Revelation 11:18 says that YHWH comes to reward those who have Honored His Name, and to “destroy those who have destroyed the Earth.” Do you Honor His Name by using it? I have room here for a small group. I moved here 15 years ago to get things ready here for my friends. Now I am warning my friends not to be trapped near this thing, seeing how we have a trust able date each year to watch for this. I can tell you lots of details, but this is not the place. This is the kind of thing you are better off watching from a distance. Once it starts the gas and food will run out fast, and travel will be impossible the next day from all the people leaving the north. I am giving you the LDS people a way out. Get a small group together, and come find out what you are missing. Like a vacation every year. I do not want all the work you did in the LDS Church to be wasted. Please join with me, and lets go fix Russell Nelson, we can do this. We know he is just a man, but I think a man who will listen. We are in control, not the LDS people, as they are running and hiding from the truth, and they cannot fight against the Truth, the Davidian Servant brings the New Song! This Song they have been waiting for. This is the way the Creator works. He will send a lowly servant to bring the Truth to the Leaders most the time they do not listen, but this time Russell Nelson will listen. The Prophet is not to be running the church, the Prophet is always hiding in the woods and pictured as a caveman with long uncut hair. Humm... I wonder why? I give you new reasons to go back to convert your LDS friends. This is very powerful information. It Is The Truth! Tithing was for the Levites, and that was their inheritance, so everyone taking tithes, are stealing from the Levites. 2nd Tithes are for the widow and orphans. Third tithes are for you to travel here, and party with. That is Scripture!

I learned about the mental illness (depression, etc., from being isolated in abusive marriages, and abusive situations) from an ex-JW named Mary Kochan. I listened to a set of taped speeches she gave debunking the cult that her family was in for three generations. Worth finding the recordings if they still exist and you want to find out the truth about JWs and mental health issues. I think she was also in an abusive marriage and had a breakdown, leading to many JW women contacting her to ask her for help in coping with their own nervous breakdowns because the JW cult doesn't have anything for people who are struggling. I think the tape series was 'Inside the Watchtower,' but I could be wrong.

JWs are terrifying and somehow its not in the public awareness, a friend's mother was forced to stay married to her abusive, alcoholic ex-husband. He was allowed to continue attending church and could have earned his way back into full membership. She married a non-witness who treats her amazingly, her mother nearly didn't attend the wedding. Until her stepfather stepped in to say her mother would regret it for the rest of her life

I was raised LDS. At fifteen I fell away from the church, due to a traumatizing experience, which I shared with a Priesthood member, who did nothing to help me. I was then, and have PTSD as a result of the experience. At fifty, I moved to southern Utah, and with my LDS sister was given work cleaning, and painting new construction in the Zion area. I worked for a painting contractor. At my request for my paycheck, he met me at Target. We sat for three hours, while he described his living situation on a shared property, with his siblings, and their children. He expressed that his wife was looking for a sister-wife. Coming from Silicon Valley in California, I had no idea what he was talking about. I just wanted my pay. At a point in our conversation, he pointed to some women at the checkout. He then emphasized the women were dressed in culturally appropriate attire, and not in the 'Holley Hoby' attire. Upon being given my pay, he reached out for a hug. I gave him a half hug, the type you would give any friend. At that, he said, "Some people don't know what they are being offered." Later my LDS sister had to explain that he was proposing to me. In my fifty years of walking the planet, I never would have guessed that could happen to me.

I had 4 daughters under the age of 13, my youngest was 1 at the time. (I had 5 daughters but my oldest passed at age 6). I left with only our clothes & $200. He stalked us for 5 years afterwards & even bought me a grave. I was lucky to have my parents help or I wouldn’t have made it. The brainwashing goes very deep, I had such a deep belief that divorce would send me to hell & I literally had to discover the church wasn’t true before I could leave the ex. i know for a lot of people it may feel weird to hear about a mushroom trip and that it would bring catharsis or introspection, but honestly... I get where she's coming from. I was many years into pulling apart and introspecting on the parts of myself that I had repressed throuighout my childhood and young adult life before I decided to try something similar. I distinctly remember having this moment of honesty with myself about all of the excuses I made for my parents and just being like "I love my father but he hurt me so much!" and just sobbing, letting out a lot of that pain and frustration and just admitting to myself that I didn't have to protect their image... I had to heal myself. My parents were not terrible people, and we have all grown a lot over the years. But that growth and the healing both between us and within us couldn't really happen without that introspection and without saying openly "I was deeply hurt by you and I need us to both know that". I understand there was nuance to why things happened, but i also just needed some accountability from my parents on the trauma they passed on to me. And sometimes being so used to controlling everything about your mask and persona that keeps the pieces held in place, the only real way to have that cathartic realization is to let go a little bit of that control- sometimes literally through a trip.

Homeschooling does not keep children from interacting with others - IF your parents are not in a cult! You have so much free time when you homeschool, because the lessons only take about half hour to a couple of hours per day, that you have HUGE amounts of time to go places and do things, join groups, have private lessons or apprenticeships in the community with a variety of people following your personal interests. I know plenty of homeschooled children, and they ALL have great manners and the ability to converse with adults and people from all kinds of backgrounds because they spend so much time interacting with adults in the community and people from sports groups, scout groups, dance groups, music lessons, sailing qualification courses, horse-riding lessons, ham radio groups, and other crafts and skill-based activities with other children or with adults. They are so well-socialized that they aren't just locked into the herd mentality of trying to be like, talk like, dress like and behave like other kids who are exactly your age (how is SCHOOL - where you are forced to conform to people your age - any preparation for real life, where you have to interact with people of ALL ages? How is SCHOOL - which trains you to conform to your peers and rigid school rules, preparation for adult life when you need the flexibility to cope with life at work, at school, in the community, in church groups, in social groups, in hobby or sports groups, on committees in clubs and at work and in the neighborhood, etc.? People who are stuck in a cult in extreme poverty (no water?) and ruled by extremely restrictive ideology - who can't even invite other kids to their house because their life is so weird - should not assume that it's a lack of going to SCHOOL that is the cause of not being socialized normally.

I helped to get my wife out off the church, it was hard work, they told her to leave me, I was angry, but lucky she said she loved me and don’t see why, she should do that. Funny thing, we left the church in 1986 , and the missionaries came to our door the other day, and they asked for my wife and not me. I wanted to know why they were at my door. We had moved a few times since then . I spoke to them for a long time. Oh my god, they have been brainwashed even more, on the subjects off the old doctrine’s by Young , they have been told how to answer them. And they have been told that it’s all lie’s. I told them, we did the old temple ways, by going with the thumb across from one ear to the other. They didn’t believe me. How can the president ie. So called Prophet , off the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Claim to be a Prophet , when he murdered so many members, and told lies, and teach another doctrine to the one off today. So changing the temple ways, is hiding the past and truth’s off their lies. It all makes me sick, my wife’s family are all members. My wife don’t even like me talking about it. So I have to very careful to keep my shut, when they come round. Thanks for sharing your work on helping those poor members and those who are thinking about joining the Mormon church. Bless you !

I can only imagine what a cult would be like. The church I was introduced to ( my family wasn’t religious. My GGran was made to become Roman Catholic in Hungary. She told my gran and mom not to let anyone tell you what to believe) so by 12 I couldn’t intellectualize a religion telling you how to live and think. Too many rules beyond your average morals and values. I quit.

If I am not mistaken Ram Dass teaches people to meditate. I really like mantra meditation as taught in book Meditation for Dummies. I would recommend mantra meditation using positive affirmations to change one's mental outlook and not use psychedelics to change one's mental outlook as I have heard of people dying or causing others harm when using psychedelics.

I’m glad she is talking about the racism however I really wish she would use the terminology “the blacks” we are not “the” blacks we are just black or African American people. Saying “the blacks” is typically how slave owners would would talk about slaves (kind of like how you would say the cows…) I know she’s probably using language the way she’s heard it and doesn’t even realize so I hope this gets to her so she can be a bit more conscious in the future.

You never know how much culture creates unintentional racism. My husband is Japanese and my grandfather would call them orientals and had no idea it was wrong. My mother in law had to explain how rude and dehumanizing that was because oriental is a description of goods as "pretty" or ornamented in some way. It's not a people. I never said it myself, but I felt so much shame having no idea it was wrong.

And still polygamous, even if on earth not with 2 wives at same time but if man remarried after widowed etc. And single sisters get to be servants? Doesn't sound like a blissful eternity. I do want to say though as a homeschooler who’s homeschooling my kids who have adhd as traditional school does not work for them you can most definitely make sure your kids have socialization! They are able to be out in the world, but you have to work for it and get your kids out there and not just keep them home. My kids have co ops, neighbor friends, field trips and so much more where they interact and make friends their age or of all ages really! So please know if people are homeschooling right they will make sure their children learn all they need to!

So fascinating as a polyamorous person to learn about polyamory in terms of like... doctrine. Really weird. I get to choose who i date, it's more of a belief in freedom that your partners get to live their lives. And i mean it's as tough as trying to find any 1 relationship to begin with. I have a partner, they wanted to be poly, we became poly bc i accepted that i have the capacity to do that (i still don't know how that'd translate to living with multiple people. i might get very jealous depending on if i also have other people to give me attention) but ya it's still compromises. you can't just date my sibling, that'd be INSANE. You can't just be the only one to be poly, that's insane. We can agree to live apart if we know it wont' work out or have different goals; we have the full right to walk out of the relationship (s). The term nowadays just asks for freedom for your partner, that you don't own them and they don't own you.
@helenr4300 Жыл бұрын
Poly by choice is very different. These are rules that force people into a lifestyle and is more about obedience and patriarchal control. Your situation sounds tough, as by loving your partner and accepting their poly identity it sounds as if you are being asked to embrace something that doesn't come naturally to you.

Hey could you explain a bit more what “testimony” means? From context including other christian faiths, i gather its just like your story and experience of the holy spirit. But it sounds like theres a whole part of mormon church service that is dedicated to sharing testimony. So does everyone has like one testimony or can the same person share multiple times?? And what are the criteria for your story to be considered testimony? Does it have to be specifically about joseph smith? Or can it be pretty general like about feeling God or the Holy Spirit in your life?
@CultstoConsciousness Жыл бұрын
Hi Erin! Great question! A testimony is an unquestioning faith in the church and God. It's basically a way of saying you have complete certainty that (insert church related thing here) is true. It usually goes something like this, "Hi everyone, I'm Shelise, and I have a testimony that this church is true. That Joseph smith was a true prophet of God who was sent here to restore God's one true church onto the Earth. I have received his blessings after being a faithful servant to him and know that by keeping his covenants, I will live with him and my family for time and all eternity. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." So once a month, in place of regular sacrament meeting (with talks given by the congregation), people instead get up at random, go to the mic and say something like this in front of everyone. I call them "indoctrination meetings" because they teach you even if you don't have a testimony, bear it until it becomes true. So when smart people like lawyers and doctors get up and bear their testimony, it makes you think "well if THEY know it's true, then maybe it is!"
@kckush5046 Жыл бұрын
As a kid I was often offered $1 to get up and bear my testimony. It was ice cream man $. My family wasn't well off, so this opportunity got my shy self up in front of a room saying.. I'd like to bear my testimony, I know the church is true. I love my mom and dad and brothers and sisters. In the name of Jesus Christ amen. I've heard many, many kids bear the exact same testimony over the years.
@amygreen758 Жыл бұрын
It's nice to see questions coming from the outside. The Mormon church teaches that the more you bear (speak and share) your testimony publicly, the more blessings, guidance, peace and prosperity you will receive. Almost every aspect of Mormonism is prosperity gospel based. Some people give their travel logs as a testimony. But as long as you don't say anything that challenges Mormonism, and as long as you don't bring up their troubled history or say anything critical about the leaders, a member can talk about anything that supports their ego and assurances within Mormonism.
@helenr4300 Жыл бұрын
In wider Christianity 'testimony' is generally used to refer to someone's conversion story, or a story of a particular miraculous encounter of how God has helped you..

By Jesus, Mo, and Bud! This is crazy! For decades I've read and watched anything avialable in an attempt to understand people in cults and sects. Not for the sake of reaching accept, but from the philosofi that, in order to change things, you have to understand how they work. For the first time I see some light! I was close to giving up, but you've given me new hope. My thoughts on that? You use a different vocab. Neutral words? Non-religious words? I don't know, but somehow "high maintenance religion" tricked something in my brain, tore down a barrier, perhaps? New words, new angle? Then this mushroom thing! I suffered for a post natal depression. One evening I smoked a joint (for the first time for decades). I didn't "leave my body", but somehow I manged to stop the myriads of bad thoughts I struggled with, for an hour or so, and "look" at my self and my life situation from outside. Two days later I asked for help! I thought "thought-control"??? Wait a minute!I know what it's like NOT being in control of what's going on in your own head! I know what it's like hammering your self with blame and guilt and shite. I've been there! It was just called a depression in my case, and it went away. It wasn't a fåking lifestyle (pardon my French) Suddenly I can relate! I'm no longer just "running" on my mother's opbringing, my intellect and gathered knowledge. So thanks a million times to you both. I love it when my brain gets rattled! Still there? I come from a background that is probably is as opposite to yours, as it can get. Agnostic, but Christened, confirmed and married in my Christian State Church. My sons are Christened, purely for cultural reasons (and an excuse for a party), but not confirmed. A school system that insists on you turning everything upside down, inside out and encourages you to look at things from different angles. Critical thinking and a team project to prove you've got it. Not learning by heart and then multiple choise tests. The law states that the school shall bring up "active participants in a democracy" - and worse things that could kill some Ameristanies, if they could read it! A family that has divorced for generations, and I don't share my father with my siblings. Where you've got sister wives and mothers, I have hordes of ex-brothers in law, all my sisters has stepchildren. I've had some, but "lost" them in a divorce. My sons have a stepsister and a half sister. My grandchild has got 5 (five!) grandmother's. You wouldn't believe the family constallations I've celebrated X-mas with. I certainly know about making "extended" families with potential for jealousy work! Sorry if I've bored you - peace and love and thanks again.

I have never understood why a religion needs a prophet. I come from a mainstream Christian background and always believed that the bible had all that was required to understand the whole will of God. It all goes to the belief of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my individual responsibility to my Heavenly Father. The ONLY mediator between God and I was Jesus Christ - not some capricious prophet. I had no problem that our understanding and acceptance of updated societal norms changed how we looked at the bible, not that the book had changed. I guess Mormonism completely collapses without Smith and his grifty grift.
