Rocky (Sümi Naga) : (Singer/songwriter)
Rocky was one of the most influential singers during 1970s and his talent and influence is still felt long after his tragic death. Considered one the first Naga music stars, he was the frontman/lead singer of the band “Rocky & The Band” in the 1970s; comprising of 5 members.
By profession, Rocky was a soldier in the THE GREAT NAGA BATTALION - Border Security Force (BSF) and was posted at SATAKHA, a small town under Zunheboto District.
“Rocky & The Band” were so famous and popular; and were even flown in by helicopters to perform shows all over India.
“Ningu Kümtsü “ is one of his legendary hit songs. The song talks about how we are all destined to die; and our earthly possessions cannot bring salvation of the soul. This song was and is loved and sung all across the Sümi land.
“The good do die young”, as they say; and the Nagas lost one of its own. Rocky died an untimely death in the early 1980s; but his song and his legendary performances lives forever - etched deep in the hearts of the people.

My father was also a member of this band originally a BSF band during 60's to 70's.. He always shares me about their Wonderful journey.. But he is no more.. This song reminds me of him.... The legend drummer who was forgotten by the history

Though music and singing pioneers are Ao's in Nagaland I wouldn't deny that this is the best song and music that could ever produce way back those days from Nagaland. I mean it's pure and natural no Bollywood music can ever beat this song till these days.
